U.S. 395 in April?

I am thinking of going home to Oregon from Yuma via U.S. 395 in California.

Could anyone tell me what is the general road condition (particularly north of Bishop in the mountains) during the first week in April?

Are the rv parks (at least those convenient to the highway for quick on and off) open that early?

Thanks.

Also just came up 395 to Reno from SoCal on Wednesday. Road was great. Lots of ice warnings but none observed. Some precipitation forecast for next Wednesday but probably not an issue during daytime.

Just 6 miles north of Bishop is one of our favorite campgrounds just off the highway about a half mile.

It's Brown's Millpond Campground!

The operator in there lives full time, and if you go ask even if she is closed and all you need is electricity, she will often let you stay. If you tell her Mike and Carole send you there from their truck and camper she might remember us.

We left Casa Grande, AZ Thursday on our way to our home base in Reno.

Currently in Indio, CA and will head to 395 Wednesday and stop overnight in Lone Pine before arriving in Topaz Lake on Thursday for a few days. Reno on Monday.

Always check the weather this time of year but 395 is a good road all the way.

The road is excellent. It does get to around 8000 feet elevation and in April it can snow but if it does it is melted in hours. Just watch the weather window from the Reno area and you should be fine. Going south there are two major downgrades between Bridgeport and Bishop. Between Reno and Carson City the wind can be more of an issue than most anything else.

Just google 'California Highway Conditons' and enter uS 395 for current road conditions.
