I am replacing my 2022 F350 Platinum with 26000 miles. I can replace it with an identical truck .... 9 months newer and 1/2 the mileage for $4000 difference .... or, for $14,500 (CAD) difference I can pick up a new 2023 high output Platinum that I ordered months ago that has finally come in.

Did anyone easy get a chuckle out of this thread, in that our resident expert on on all things truck(HP, torque rise, towing etc) starts a thread asking what people think about regarding the purchase of a new truck!

Using a 15% driveline loss the engine hp required for the Duramax to pull a 27000 lb trailer up the Ike in 620 seconds works out to about 406 HP
Making the same assumptions the 2020 Powerstroke would have had to make 434 hp to pull a 30,000 lb trailer up the Ike in 620 seconds
And using the same assumptions again the 2023 Powerstroke produced 414 crankshaft hp to drag the 27000 lb trailer up the Ike in 606 seconds.

If you look at the spec sheet on the three engines: the Duramax should produce an average of around 405 Hp throughout its rpm range
The 2020 Powerstroke should produce an average of around 430 Hp over its rpm range
The 2023 Powerstroke should produce an average of about 460 Hp over its rpm range.

Yes it might be, I don't recall the numbers, but the parasitic loss through the drivetrain seemed really low to me, suggesting that it's making more power than advertised or they have figured out how to lessen the loss running through the drivetrain.

MY BIL had a 2022 F350 Lariet and pretty sure it still had the factory oil/filter on it. He traded it on a 2023 F350 King Ranch.

I have a hard time understanding why the HO performed worse on the Ike vs the regular output. Maybe (just an absolute wild guess) it has a different turbo that doesn't like high altitude?

If the HO run up the IKE is the way they all run, I don't think it is worth the money. However, perhaps the resale value of having that option would come close to paying for itself.

get the HO version.... I drive a lot of new trucks to and from dealers, there is a noticeable difference between the 2... a small, but noticeable difference... Although, I have not towed with the new HO version...

So, My vote is for the $10k upcharge and run the HO

For me mainly using my 2019 2500 hd for work it is modified(added 52 gallons of fuel with transfer pump, 560ah battery bank with 100amp alternator charging, 2400 watt inverter rear seat removed and bed platform installed, upgraded wheels and tires for 4500lbs per corner) so that is a big consideration.

I usually keep mine about five years because stripping my stuff out and reinstalling takes some time. In 2019 I traded a 2013 2500hd diesel with a little over 100,000 miles that I bought used and got more than I paid for it as well as a good price on the 2019, I did have to travel from the Seattle area to Twin Falls Idaho for it though.

That being said if my truck was not modified I would probably still stick with the older truck, especially if I didnโ€™t care for lot of the upgrades in the newer model, but then i usually go with LT trim as I fell like there is less **** to go wrong.

Last week we purchased a "used" 2023 Ram 2500 Hemi with ~9k miles so some more shattered respect. We really didn't need it, but the price was good. My wife (she wrote the check) and I picked it up and drove it to the farm. Rides pretty smooth.
