hello ๐Ÿ™‚

we have had the fortunate opportunity to drive the 14-mile scenic byway between shoshoni-thermopolis on 2 occasions..
have noted camping in one spot on the river close to the road..
however i am unable to find any information about it...
it might be on the indian reservation... i am not sure..

we will be on our way to alaska this summer in our truck camper (not below pictured rig)

would really appreciate if anyone is able to shed some light...
thank you in advance

You are indeed thinking of Boysen State Park. There are 3 campgrounds there. I think you are referring to the campground under the cottonwood trees as you come out of the canyon.
We normally stay at Tough Creek campground (the first one out of Shoshoni) because of the nice boat ramp. But it has very few trees.
Enjoy your visit in our great State!

Google Earth shows two campgrounds along the river in the canyon downstream of the dam and before the first tunnel. They are part of Boysen State Park and are named Upper Wind River and Lower Wind River campgrounds.

X2 to the national forest campgrounds west of Cody as being the better choice.
I think you're probably looking at a pull-out for folks needing a short break.
But...it never hurts to ask. Someone here might know for sure. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think I know the campground that you are questioning. We have stopped there a couple of times to let the dog walk and have lunch. If it is the one on the west side of HWY 20 in the canyon it is quite nice but probably noisy with the traffic coming down the canyon. It wouldn't be my favorite place with nicer camping spots to the west of Cody and north.

thanks for your reply texas shadow ๐Ÿ™‚
however i am specifically looking for info on this particular spot...it is right next to the 20 but you would be looking down on it..
it's literal (dry...i would imagine) camping on the river

This is Boysen State Park. There are three campgrounds. one on the lake above the dam and two below the dam in the canyon.
We have never stayed there, but the canyon camps look nice and shady
