Wanting to down size from fifth wheel to smaller TT

I have a 37 foot Montana fifth wheel and want to down size to a light weight 20 to 25 foot travel trailer. Like to keep it 5000 lbs or below. Needs to be four seasons. Now I'm not looking at 0 degrees. I do hunt and need it to take at least freezing temps like 15 to 25 degrees. Need the valves and tanks heated so they don't freeze. I won't be camping in any lower temps than what I quoted. Was looking at the Cougar 21RBS. Need a sofa or theater seating or chase lounge with table instead of booth or free standing chairs dinette. My wife likes to lounge out. I like Shadow Cruiser floor plans but doesn't say if the tanks and valves are heated.

I do have a 2003 4x4 Chevy duramax diesel 2500hd truck and a 2014 Chevy 4x4 1500 pickup but I was wanting to sell the diesel and half ton pickups and buy a new Chevy Colorado Diesel eventually. That's why I need to stay at 5000 lbs or below and max 25 foot. Want to down size it all including tow vehicle eventually.

We set out to downsize from our 32' 5th wheel. After a year of looking, we came home with a special order 32.5' TT.

I agree. 27'; light weight; full 4 season pkg; great room for such a small package; and best of all, towable with a half-ton PU.

I understand the downsize - we have went from a 35' 5th with slide out. to a 22 foot travel trailer but are back to a 24 foot trailer now - no problem with a 1/2 ton truck, and v/8 engine with tow package.Go to far down and you will not enjoy it, the 24 foot seems to be and ideal size. Good luck.

After doing some research and pricing on new trucks you are totally right. Hopefully there is some left over 2016 Ram 3500 SRW crew cab diesel trucks after the first of the year. Run my own business need the tax deduction for 2017. New 2016 Ram 3500 for $44,900.00 is the truck to have. Worth every penny more than a half ton pickup or Colorado diesel.

IMO you are trying to go too far in sizing down! Even for a 22' AF, I would want a 2500. Weight adds up. Since you want a 4 season unit with with everything enclosed, they tend to be heavy for their length.

Thought about building my own. Buying a cargo trailer with 6'9 interior height 7x14. With V nose it would be 7x17. A lot of labor and planning would have to be involved to pull it off.

This plan would be a full aluminum tandem axle cargo trailer. Be total of 2000 lbs unloaded

Well, maybe not. They are 8' wide, and I wouldn't want to tow an 8' wide TT with a smaller truck.

I'd recommend sticking with a 7' TT.

In our experience we could not find a 4 season TT in the 24 Ft range under 5000#. We ended up with a Cougar 24RKS. Dry weight 5500#. Your new TV should handle this unit.

Chevy Colorado diesel can pull 7000 something. Length is what gets it. Think it gets a little squirrely after 28 foot
