Goodyear Wrangler Trail Runner
LT275/65R20 has a very small leak. Aired to 75 PSI on September 15. As of today it is at 64 PSI.
Took it to a dealer and they found the leak. Can still see the nail.

Looks, for those old enough, like a paneling nail.

Told me it could not be repaired and quickly offered to install a new one.
Tire has less than 12,000 miles.
See photo. It is inside the white circle.
What is your opinion?
It is my gut feeling that if I should replace it, I should replace both.

If itโ€™s on the edge of the tread and no one will patch or plug it. I would plug it if itโ€™s simply a small nail hole.

I'd replace it.

I'd also buy road hazard coverage.

Small puncture patch it and carry on!

NOT always true.... IF the puncture is within 1" of the sidewall on the tread, they are NOT going to repair...

If the puncture is more than an inch away from the sidewall, plug-patch ( umbrella patch) is the best of both worlds.

With that said.,,, if not repairable, buy 1 not 2

They won't repair one that has damage at the tread edge.

Had a similar experience with our Malibu, picked up a screw just outside the repairable area. The Tech at the Tire place I deal with admitted if it was his, he'd repair it and carry on, BUT because we were a Customer he couldn't repair it for fear of losing his license.

First make sure itโ€™s not repairable. Many Tire shops are are more conservative than necessary for multiple reasons (liability and profit).
Next, depends how many burnouts youโ€™ve done with the matching one? to determine if you need 2. But I bet thereโ€™s a very slim chance that replacing both tires is preferable based on the mileage on the tires.

If the tire dealer didn't insist that you had to install two, I wouldn't worry about installing two. Wouldn't even consider it.

No image shows upโ€ฆthink your formatting isnโ€™t correct

Here is the RMA image showing where the repairable area is and where it NOT recommended to repair.

Make no matter how many miles is on the tire. Risk is a blowout from flexing at the stress raiser around the repaired area

Plus the tires speed rating is no longer warranted by the OEM once a tire has been repaired. Especially high speed rated tires.
