Actually ram started using DEF in 2011 in their Cab and Chassis (CAC) trucks

Thank you for that my RAM GuRu! I knew that but was not sure of the date that's why I stated Light Duty Pickups.

Someone let me know if I'm wrong but I believe it was 2011 for Ford with the 6.7 the previous 6.4 only used a DPF filter
2013 for the RAM and I'm not sure about the GM but after 2012 it was required

GM implemented DEF in their 2011 trucks but had major problems and actually disabled the DEF system with EPA approval until the issue could be resolved.

The RAM Chassis Cab (CC) trucks also use DEF, and they started the use of DEF a couple years before the pickup trucks.

Google: "2012 is the last year you DO NOT need DEF(Diesel Exhaust Fluid)/Urea for Ram 2500 and 3500 diesels. Competitors, Ford and Chevy, have already switched to this new system with Dodge's 2013 Heavy Duties following suite.{sic}"
