My HP laptop developed a problem two days ago so I started using a used Dell Latitude E6510 laptop I had recently purchased. My problem is I cannot figure out how to turn the touch pad off. Does anyone know how to accomplish this on this model computer?

Information on a Dell users site indicates this is a well known problem with this model and indicated a fix.

Thanks for the recommendations. There is no switch on this computer and as I will never use the touch pad I will try to disable it in the bios. Trying to disable it in the control didn't work. Thanks for the suggestions.

On both of ours (Dell and Acer), there is a function key to turn it on and off. On the wife's Dell Vostro, it's Fn F3 (I know a lot of times I refer to the computer as efen, but Fn is Function :))

BIOS! Why in the world would you do that unless you want to disable it completely. If you right click on the pad icon you can set it to disable when a USB mouse is present or docked. Simple

When my LAPTOP is here at the house setup I have two 24-inch DELL Monitors and mouse and sound amps going. Never open the lid excpet to start up the DELL LAPTOP. As soon as it loads up then I close the lid...

Great doing it this way as when I travel I still have everything with me...
No more desk tops for me anymore...

That's also where my trackpad options are located in my DELL Ultrabook.

Try looking under ELAN in Mouse under Control Panel. Should be an option to disable.

You can also disable most any hardware, even if there is no option, by disabling its associated driver in Device Management.

Running Windows 7? It may have the option in Control Panel/Mouse. But some laptops simply don't have the option to turn off the touchpad, which can be really annoying. And you might try plugging in a USB mouse. Good luck.
