. . . to "Holland" brand 5th wheel hitches? The kind that had over the wheel well brackets that the 5th wheel hitch assembly mounted to. I had one many, many years ago and loved it. You could take 2 pins out of the "U" shaped brackets on the over the wheel well brackets, lift the hitch assembly off and leave the bed completely clear and flat. I haven't seen one in years.

Holland found out that the market for commercial 5th wheel's was more lucrative than the Rv market. Still in business in Muskegon, Michigan, right down the street from Fleet Engineers. Most commercial trucking companies prefer a cast steel Holland fifth wheel over a stamped Fontaine.... and they wear better too.

My 1st 5th wheel hitch was a across the wheel wells 12k Atwood just like the old Holland in the pic.
Everyone I saw had the brackets bolted to the bed frame channels.
Sure shook the bed had the 8200 gvwr 5er and a 3400 bass boat. Towed doubles with the 7600 gvwr Aljo and a 18' 3400 lb bass boat for eight years. No issues with the metal bed.
I prefer the new gen hitches with the two way pivot and up to 25k lbs.

Went 'commercial'

Still have 5th wheel hitches for light duty......8000# pin weight and UP
32,000# tow capacity
BUT all are FRAME Rail mounted

I wouldn't want to rely on cheap thin sheet metal used in truck beds to stand up to hitching.towing 5th wheel.

Nope! They just don't build truck beds like that old '74 Ford I had back then.:( As I recall mine had reinforcing plates and frame brackets under the bed where the bolts went. But that was many years ago and I've slept a time or two since then. :h
