Tires again

Today, while driving on a freeway, we blew out aST235/80R16 with a G load rating. This tire was mounted on a 16,000 lb 5er. The tire brand was Samson and yes, that tire is mfg. in China. We will be purchasing 4 new tires in the next day or two. Can you recommend a better tire than the one that blew? We don't mind paying for quality, in fact we would much rather pay for quality than experience again what happened today.

We are currently in Boone, NC and will find new tires while we are here. I just called a local truck tire place and they are recommending Carlisle tires over Hercules. Do any of you have experience with Carlisle tires?

Just a heads-up about the Sailun: they are now made in Vietnam, and there have been several instances of complete tread separation. This was on tires made earlier this year in Vietnam. Dunno if it's a continuing problem. I loved the Sailun tires on my Fuzion, six years old and still going strong when I sold the trailer. Now I'm having second thoughts, but won't need tires for another year or so, hopefully anyway. There may be more news by then.

Hadn't heard this. Will keep my ears/eyes open for more info.

FWIW, we have Provider G's on our 30' GN triple axle trailer. They're working well, so far.

Sailun. Former truck tire re-branded as ST tires for import tax purposes, or so many people have told me.

I'm included in the Sailun crowd, but I'm not liking what I've heard here and other sites about the recent made in Vietnam Sailuns.

Samson 16" GL 285T load G is a go to tire on haulers websites. One thing we do not use or recommend to others is derate those heavy tires with 80-95 psi low pressures like we see on rv websites.

Top rated 16" load G for trailers with 7k-8k axles on rv and non rv trailering website without doubt is the Sailun S637 which comes in two 16" sizes at 4080 lbs or 4400 lbs capacity.
I have six S637 on a triaxle GN stock trailer/7k axles with around 35k-37k miles with no issues. I keep 110 psi sitting for weeks or full loads or half loads on local runs 400-450 mile runs.

Pretty tough to beat a Sailun S637; I have had mine on my 16k fiver for 6 1/2 years so far with zero issues and they still look great. They also only lose about 3 psi each evenly over winter storage.

Yes, they are Chinese tires but they have a great track record and I would buy them again without hesitation.

I have Hercules G rated tires on my trailer. Highly recommended by my tire guy who installed them on his father's trailer as well. I've only had them for about 9 months, but they give me peace of mind. My trailer has a GVWR of 10,500 lbs. That is very close to my tire guy's father's trailer. I know I have more tire than I'll ever need, but I'm anxious to see how they perform over time.

No personal experience with them, but many knowledgeable forum members are using Sailun brand, and recommending them.

Goodyear also makes a G load tire.

Shortly after I bought my Big Horn I put Hercules tires made by Cooper on after I had a blow out. I love that tire. They may be harder to find in the east coast.
