Just bought new to me 2006 Dodge Ram Laramie diesel truck, 6 foot box, quad cab,
11.50 rear axel, 3.73 rear axel ratio. Have been searching web sites to find towing weight. Please help if you know a good web site to get the specs. Truck has 96000 accident free miles, runs well. Also has a 19k fifth wheel hitch in bed. It is a 4x4

I have the same truck in the '03 model. Mine is the 6 spd manual 3.73 axle 2wd quad cab short bed.
Dodge gives us a 13000-13250 lb tow rating.
Dodge gives the 2500 a 6010 RAWR that will be carrying all the weight in the bed.
My 2500 rear axles scales ar 2820 lb leaving it with a 3190 lb in the bed payload.
Your 4wd may have 50-75 lbs more on the rear axle.

Best to drop by the scales and weigh the trucks front and rear axles separately. That way you will know how much load your left to play with.

A single gross weight is as worthless as titz on a boar hog as it doesn't tell you if a tire/wheel/suspension is overloaded.

And of course the Cummins sure won't have any issues towing a 13k lb trailer. Your gonna' love it.

Donn, don't think Ram 2500's got to 10,000# GVWR until 2013, might be 9,200# Ram was real stingy with GVWR until then.

OP if you want you can get the Build Sheet by typing in your VIN on this sight.

OOPS, your right. For some reason I misread and thought it was a newer truck.
9200 GVWR

Look on the drivers door jamb for a yellow sticker with the trucks payload capacity. This is the maximum load the truck can carry when fully loaded. Take 20% of the trailers GVWR for an estimated pin weight, plus, cargo, full fuel, hitch and this is your payload. Is this below the payload capacity, if yes, you are good.

A single rear wheel truck will reach its payload capacity with a 5er, long before it reaches it towing rating.

When looking at trailers, look at the GVWR, not the brochure dry weight.

Check out pg 12 in LINK.....
2006 2500 5.9L QC SB Laramie 3:73
GVWR 9000#
Payload 2100#
RAWR 6010# (****THIS will be your limiting factor)
Max Tow 12,950#

12,000# 5th wheel will put you OVER trucks GVWR and Payload Capacity
BUT Rear Axle SHOULD have enough to 'carry' WET pin weight of 2400+

Load truck up 'camp ready' (ALL passengers, stuff in cab etc) and go get truck weighed
Actual rear axle weight vs RAWR is amount of pin weight you can add before EXCEEDING RAWR.

To expand on what Don is saying, here, "towing weight" is not the issue with fifth wheels and 3/4-ton diesel trucks. What you need to find out is how much payload you have left over after the truck is fueled, loaded, and has a hitch in the bed. The important number is the actual rear axle weight from the scales minus the RAWR (rear axle weight rating) from the door sticker. Multiply that number by 4 and you'll have an approximation of the gross/loaded weight of a fifth wheel you can tow. If you search the forum, you will find somewhere between dozens and hundreds of threads on this topic.

Look at the sticker in the drivers door jamb, it will tell you everything you need to know specific to your truck.

Diesel implies it could be a 3/4 Ton, 1 Ton Single Rear Wheel or 1 Ton Dual Rear Wheel...there are wildly different ratings for each.

The 5th wheel hitch tells you nothing about what the truck can do.
