Winter camping in the Porkies?

Does anyone have a recent trip report on winter camping at Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park?

Thinking about a sub-arctic adventure for January. Three nights at Tahquamenon, an overnight at the Marquette Wally world, then three nights at Porcupine.

Anywhere else open this time of year?

On the way back, probably overnight in Escanaba.

Figure on the mighty Mac as start and end point.

I stayed in one of the backcountry yurts last year in mid march, the temp was around zero and we never saw another soul after leaving the ranger station. We had a great time and I would highly recommend the yurts and cabins. The only negative was that the only open part of the park to vehicles was the very front, you couldn't even drive to lake of the clouds.

Yes, backpacking on snowshoes with my brother forty years ago. -15 and snow. Did a circle hike down to Lake Superior then back up to Lake of the Clouds. On the last night I caught a stomach flu with a bad fever. My brother, God bless him, paced circles around the fire for 24 hours while I laid in the tent wrapped up in all of our warm clothing and both of our sleeping bags. Best backpacking trip I ever went on. My brother might even say the same.

Fabulous plan! Largest old growth hemlock/hardwood forest etc. Please post some pictures after the trip.
