What happened to Casino Queen RV park in St Louis?

For years we’ve stopped at the Casion Queen RV park on our way west and on the way back home. Itjust happens to work well for stopping distance for us. It was always busy. We missed the last couple years, but this year we stopped and it was almost empty.

The store is now closed and everything is done online, but surely there’s more to the story than that. I never heard of any issues or problems there. Now it’s Memorial Day weekend and we stopped to find plenty of open spots

What’s happened to a park that always used to be full?

We have stayed there years ago, a couple different times. They were Passport America, so half price for members. It was full all the time when we would visit. Clean, grounds well kept, and employees. Always got a coupon for a full buffet breakfast at the casino with our campground pamphlet.

We would never pay $50+ for a campsite anywhere. . . period. We full time and are in a campground every night. . .don't do the Walmart thing. But we do look for bargains. Right now we are in Searcy, AR, waiting for our appointment at the RVFogDr. on Tuesday. PPA camp, very nice, FHU, $16.50 a night. We even have a full concrete pad.

Edmund Babler State Park is our 'go to' park when visiting St. Louis. If you time it right (9-3) it's an easy drive into the city.

Last time I stayed there it was more than 50.00 a night. I liked staying there while in St. Louis, but I won't pay that much just to stay there. They used to take you from campground to Cardinals game and we used to stay there and go to ballgame.

It is more expensive than many casino parks, but being in St Louis probably plays into that. It’s always been pretty pricey, but it’s always been pretty full. Since the store closed and nobody working check-in, it seems to be dying. Weeds are growing up between the sites where they were never allowed to do that before. Maintenance is apparently part of what’s being cut back.

I read it’s an employee owned casino now and they sold all physical assets to a hedge fund and leased it back for 15 yrs. That usually signals financial trouble. It’s a nice RV park so it’s a shame to see it decline. I think having a store and people on site would help along with dropping to a more competitive price.

I just went through the registration process for 50 amp FHU motorhome our size arriving 6/4 and departing 6/7. Total cost 168.50 - that's 56.17 per night!! :E That would be reason enough for me not to stay there. That is the most expensive RV site I have found at a casino. They apparently don't want the business. We stayed there three years ago for a slightly less expensive rate and saw no amenities worth the extra cost.

Look at it this way... you don't have those close noisy neighbors to contend with and you have a choice of sites. 🙂 Perhaps contacting them and ask why the store and office is closed. Is there a 'contact' clicky online? Perhaps it's the time of year... not official traveling time until schools are out. Enjoy your stay!

I understand the "East St Louis" part, but the park used to be mostly full all the time. Security patrols it, and in 15 yrs of stopping here I’ve never seen or heard of trouble at the park. Maybe I just haven’t heard about it, but a google search didn’t turn anything up either.

I’m sure not having a well stocked store or anyone in the office probably doesn’t help.

It's East St. Louis, not St. Louis. That says it all. We've lived in the St. Louis area at one time and would never think of RVing in East St. Louis.
