So we arrived at the Nogales Mariposa border crossing on Wednesday morning after spending a night in Tucson!
There was absolutely nobody paying any attention to the three of Us as we drove slowly through the Border area! We all had our passports ,Visitor Papers and TIP documents as well as our Insurance papers ready for inspection ,but not a single soul so much as waved at us!
The highway 15 D was in very good shape this year and the By pass around Hermosillo is fantastic!! The signage is good so anyone who can read should have absolutely no problem getting on the right road!
Many of the Toll booths were taken over by the locals so the toll cost has been pretty easy on the pocketbook.
Fuel prices are as stupid here as they are in BC !
The Western Periferico around Navajoa was in excellant condition .apparently the Eastern one sucks!
We were headed to Huatabampito so enjoyed the ease of access!
We managed to pickup two more rigs while at a Totonaka!

We were escorted from the Periferico around Huatabampo and all the way to our RV Park at Huatabampito by the State Police!
That’s all for Today!

Were there a couple of weeks ago. Yes, south road is in good condition. Just a few semi-rough spots to watch for. The no-see-ums are really bad this year. Deet will not work. A new product (a couple of years old) by Coleman with an European repellent does. We have used it on two trips down and we were the only ones with just a couple of bites while everyone else was covered with bites. Coleman SkinSmart can be found at Walmart in USA for around $6 USD. One can will last a week on a single person. We tried to find it South of the border on earlier trip when we started to run out but without success. Get it before you cross into MX.

Hit one in the city of Durango on a Sunday morning. It looked like a shadow from the trees. The hitch pin broke, the trailer came over us like whale in the water. Fortunately, the damage was minimal. We used every piece of wood we had plus the SUV jack to raise it up and get the heck out of Dodge. Down the road, we were able to collect ourselves and get things going again. Broke the hitch pin and soon replaced the codder pin. It never was the same and had to replace the whole thing.

Age changes things. I used to say my sweet spot was 62 mph, now it's more like 52 mph. I'm in no hurry.

Advice on those "suddenly on top of it" topes:

Brake as hard as is reasonable, but very important, RELEASE THE BRAKES immediately before hitting it. If you are still hard on the brakes, the front suspension is already pretty well collapsed. You want full suspension travel when you contact the tope.

For those who have not driven in Mexico, "topes" are (usually) very abrupt and significant speed bumps, sometimes almost like cinder blocks cemented into the roadway. The sign for "topes" is often very close to the bumps themselves, which means you have to slow down RIGHT NOW when you see that sign, or else risk damage to your vehicle.

Please do not ask how I discovered all of these facts.

Southern exit to the Main Highway is smooth all the way! Do watch for Topes However!and a couple of Tractors !

Mr Morro is the better destination for a two or three night stopover!

We should be rolling into Huatabampito about the 23rd or 24th and plan to spend several days eating shrimp and walking the beach. Would appreciate a report on the south road out as we are headed to Mazatlán, taking our time.

They stopped us and said that we needed to follow them ! We have been here numerous times over the last 20+ years so did not need to be shown the way!
I suspect that since there were 5 Rigs together they figured One of us would buy them a cervaisa!
