MEXICO STOPS US WITH TRUCK CAMPER!

We have tried to get a tourist permit to enter our 1130 Lance Camper and Ford F350 pickup and we were refused a vehicle permit. They told us that no more truck campers and pickups over 1/2 T will be permitted. This type of vehicle is not permitted because of GVW (a law that has been in effect for years , but now being enforced)....
We have previously traveled for over 10 years with no problem. Motorhomes and trailers have no problems, only pick ups with campers. We feel sorry for all those traveling from the north and Canada, will be disappointed,

briansue, when looking at studies or scientific surveys you have to compare "apples to apples." The October 10th data only included Latin America and the Caribbean. Also, look at the criteria used based on that culture for defining "bribery."

I copied that long list in because the article said that was where they got their info from - and what the info was had to do with what they call "perception" of corruption. There is probably no way to know exactly what corruption goes on where. So this had to do with how the many countries of the world are "perceived". What conclusions can be drawn from all that I do not know.

A personal note - I have been going to Mexico since 1971 and have never ever been asked for "mordida" of any kind. I am not saying it does not exist but in my experience it does not appear to be as prevalent as we have been told.

Wow, totally uncalled for comment and completely disrespectful of a neighboring country. Is that acceptable manners in your society? Moderator???

As a person who has lived in Mexico for the last nine years and traveled the country for about 50 years, I wouldn't say it's a "totally uncalled for.......comment". It IS the way it IS. Sure, it has diminished somewhat in the last few years, but it is still a very prevalent activity.

And if it is disrespectful, many Mexicans also engage in this means of getting government officials "working". They are disrespecting their own country, apparently.

What planet are you on? It's Mexico.

It's poor manners. If you don't get that, that's your problem.

Reality is often times an ill-mannered performance.

Also, look at the criteria used based on that culture for defining "bribery." Some Latin American and Caribbean cultures like to define it as gifts for extraordinary service. When we did not have our guide and driver with us on Fathers Day last June in Cuba, we made a few "gifts" to doormen and waiters to get extraordinary service for taxis, food, and wine, particularly when a bottle of Chilean wine magically appeared which before was unavailable.

Back to the subject of the post - Pickup with Truck Campers Not Permitted into Mexico,

There was no attempt to give or was there a bribe indicated in this attempt to enter Mexico. I had entered Mexico many many times before with the Truck Camper and the permit was issued for 6 months, paying normal fees (abput $50) plus the tourist card (about $29).

I also have friends with campers who wish to know if they will be able to spend the winter months in Mexico, so I plan to go again with all the details of the campers, photos, and copies of the Mexico customs law with my old copies of the previous permits.

I will post any update information as I receive it.

Wish I could cut and paste the following, but it is easy to Google from the following informations:

Mexico News Daily, Tuesday, October 10, 2017 entitled "Among 20 countries, MX leads for bribery"

Of course, when I read conclusions, surveys, or studies, I look at the sources of the data very carefully; never accept conclusions at face value without considering the sources.

As a person who has lived in Mexico for the last nine years and traveled the country for about 50 years, I wouldn't say it's a "totally uncalled for.......comment". It IS the way it IS. Sure, it has diminished somewhat in the last few years, but it is still a very prevalent activity.

We were discussing corruption with a Mexican the other day. He explained that on most lists Mexico is not number one. BUT that is because someone paid mordida to get further down the list!

Actually Mexico is the No 1 country in question of corruption when it comes to bribing government officials, there is a study of some kind or the other and it was published in the internet a few days ago, but there is a way to hand a bribe, there is fineness in the way it is done, you do not hand the bills out right, you ask if there is a way to remedy the situation, then they let you know how much, it is then that you either hand them some more documents with the bills covered up or you palm it in a hand shake, not in the open that is not nice for everyone to see, there is an art to it.

There is bribery in the USA also all you have to do is walk the halls of Congress, or any State Capitol Building and watch the lobbyists bribe the law makers, in Mexico the bribes are done in pesos and in the USA they are in Dollars that is the difference.
