We'll be coming into the Denver area on I70 from the East. Headed to the KOA in Central City.
What are your thoughts on routes? It looks like either the Central City Parkway or highway 6/119. (The thought of driving through Black Hawk and Central City is not appealing) Is one way better than the other or, is there another choice? OR, is the parkway, the only smart way?
We'll be in a 32' C towing a Wrangler.

If you don't like steep grades, take CO 58 and US 6 from I-70 in Denver through Golden to the CC Parkway. Two-lanes up Clear Creek Canyon, but no grades. You will see the parkway exit almost as soon as you get back on I-70 from US 6.

Thanks, well speed going up won’t be much of an issue as this flat-lander struggles to pull grades in the mountains! Now going down, that’s a whole other challenge!

CCP is the way to go. Watch you speed as it is heavily patrolled. Lots of ups and downs and nonsense low speed limits. Otherwise, it is an easy drive.

Great feedback! We’ll be taking the parway. Google Earth made it appear almost impossible to get from Black Hack to the KOA. Inthat the streets looked far to narrow for us!
Thanks again,
Gary

No problems making the same drive a couple of years ago.

^^^^^ This.

The Central City Parkway was built for a specific reason...to get folks to Central City without having to go through Black Hawk. It's an easy drive coming off I-70 with 3 lane sections. And the KOA is right there on the CCP as you come in to town.

Big rivalry between the 2 towns with casino gambling. CC claimed, with perhaps some validity, that BH was taking all the tourist traffic with the BH casinos, and that folks weren't going all the way up the hill to Central City. BTW, it's a rather steep climb through BH to CC and some narrow streets.
