I-59 Birmingham to Tennessee

Several years ago we took I-59 from Chattanooga south to I-20. The road was so rough we left the hiway and took secondary roads on to Birmingham. Is I-59 still terrible or has it been repaired? Thanks for any info!

I did exactly the same thing several years ago from I-20 North on I-59. I told my wife, 'I'm not sure where this road is going, but I can't take this interstate."

Glad to hear that it has been repaired. I'm on an auto trip right now, heading east on I-20. This news could change my planned route.

Thank you for your info, we are going up to Maine next spring from Houston and taking I-59 from Birmingham to Chattanooga would be a nice change from our usual route of I-40 all the way from AR to VA. Thanks again!

Just came down it 3 days ago and it was fine. We overnighted at Tannehill Ironworks state park on our way to NOLA. The road is good.
