Hi,
We travelled from Fort Meade to the Outer Banks last year going the first choice on MapQuest. 95 to Richmond, to 64 across to Virginia Beach and it was miserable traffic. So looking to try an alternate route. Pulling a 13.5' tall 5th wheel.

This route looks appealing. Route 3 south, to 301, to 17. This takes us into Newport News. How is it for pulling a rig? Any help is appreceiated.

We have used 17 and 301 coming north from Yorktown/Williamsburg area several times. Both are divided highways through farm country with little traffic. There are malls and traffic lights that slow things down in the northern part of 301 until you get past the east side of Washington, but further south it's all clear sailing and a pleasant drive.

Is done by many often - will give you more variety to look at but --- you will need to time it to avoid the Weekend Beach traffic to the Maryland and Delaware Beaches.

We have taken it and enjoyed it - not any faster just much more pleasant.
