A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

Sue pitched a fit when I told her I was backing out of the Lincoln deal because I was becoming afraid of the person I was dealing with. She said either sell it or take it to the crusher Monday morning, With that said I decided to continue with the deal. The man from Texas sent his buddy and his son to pick up the car. We waited at the Greenville airport for them until we got a phone call and discovered they were in Charleston instead of Greenville. So they rented a car and are on their way to Greenville. This whole thing has been a bunch of loose ends from the get go.:h

Good morning everyone. It is so nice outside. It was 51 degrees this morning. WRDW television in Augusta contacted me yesterday about the 72 Lincoln and the story behind it, It looks as if there is going to be another news story about the old car. Since Arnold Palmer's death there has been new interest in the car. The letter I got from him is proving to be worth its weight in gold.

I think I am dealing with someone who isn't right in the head concerning the 73 Lincoln. So many loose ends to the mop I have become afraid to venture any further with the deal. So I have decided to just keep it and in God's time something will happen with it to be right for all concerned.

The fur gang is well this morning. Sue is up and going just like she is every morning. I am concerned about a bump on Izzie's back. I think I will take him to the vet for several things going on with him.

Oaky I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

Me too but I doubt it. We will wait and see when construction starts on the buildings if they will honor Old Fella.

It has been a busy day. I drove the 73 Lincoln for the last time today and it was fun. Everywhere I went it drew a crowd. There was one man who just couldn't get enough of it. It starts its journey to Texas in the morning. I am glad and then I am sad.

A TV station in Augusta, Georgia has been in touch with me today concerning the story behind the 72 Lincoln. They will be in touch with me sometime in the next few days to do a news story about it and its connection to Arnold Palmer and the Augusta National.

I will be glad to see ten O'clock come tonight as I am ready for bed right now.

Good morning everyone. Metalgator have a nice trip and enjoy your weekend. It was 52 degrees here this morning. The girls enjoyed being outside in the cool air. Lily is still turning the energy level up a notch or two with the fur gang. Izzie is getting along okay but you can tell he is hurting. I am going to talk with the vet about Izzie to see what we can do to help him.

I have a busy day scheduled. I have to get Sue a B/day card and get the 73 Lincoln ready for delivery. I have to go to the vet to get Hobo's Novox refilled. I need to call the man in Texas to see when he is coming in and make arrangements to pick him up.

I don't want to start something on this thread so I will only mention it just this one time. AS you may have heard we had a shooting in a school yesterday when a fourteen year shot a teacher and two students, Please pray for the families of all involved. The shooter also shot and killed his father before going to the school. God was taken out of the schools and satan took His place.

Sue just got back from her walk with the girls so I need to get moving. I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

Good Morning!

I am excited today as this is my last day of work until next Wednesday. I am taking my wife to Biloxi, MS to stay at the Beau Rivage hotel for a long weekend. My wife likes to play the slot machines. This is always a nice trip since the casino pays for our flight and rooms. Most of our meals get compted unless we eat at one of the expensive restaurants. It's what I call a "brain dump" trip as it gets us away from work for a few days and it's nice to be wined and dined once in awhile. My wife is definitely the gambler in the family as I can't stand to stick money in a machine and watch it disappear. I usually only play the penny machines that are located next to a large bar in the center of the casino. The bar has a bunch of TV's and I watch college football on Saturday afternoon.

The only bad part is having to leave the dogs behind. I always miss them. Luckily, my mom is able to come and stay at our house when we are gone and the dogs love their grandma.

We get back on Monday and first thing Tuesday morning I have to drop off Monty at the vet so he can get his leg scanned. This injury has gone on too long and I really need to get him fixed.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning everyone. All the girls have eaten breakfast and are now out for a walk with Sue. Lily is still with us and will be until Thursday night. She is such a smart girl and very loving. She will get in my lap at night and lay on her back so I can rub her tummy until she falls asleep. Suzie doesn't like the attention Lily is getting and gives her that look of disapproval.

I hope all is well with everyone. I have a nice wooden bench that was hand made for the raffle at the Old Fella Rally. I will go shopping for some other things next week.

It is cool this morning with the temperature in the 60's. It won't be long before we will see the temperatures drop into the 50's at night. I think maybe Sue and I will take the 72 Lincoln for a drive into the foothills Sunday to see some of the color. We won;t make it to the higher elevations because the old Lincoln is not fuel injected and the carburetor won't adjust to the thinner air and will blow black smoke while the engine loads up with unburned fuel. But HWY 11 will be a nice drive and we can stop along the way to buy some apples at the roadside stands.

The blue Lincoln is supposed to be leaving for Texas Saturday afternoon. Such a beautiful old car and in such great shape for being 43 years old. The engine runs so smooth and with the new "A" frame bushing and a front end alignment it drives great.

Sue's B/day is Friday. I praise God for giving her length of days and a blessed life. I am so blessed to have such a good woman as my wife. We share our faith in God together and enjoy our church. Our children and grandchildren are well and seem to be heading in the right direction in life.

I am also blessed with so many Friends Of the Old Fella family. These past eleven years have been filled with so many people we would have never known if it weren't for Old Fella. From the West Coast to the East Coast and from the Northern boarders to the South people from all over have come together to help celebrate an old stray dog whose life bonded us all together.

Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

A good example of the severe lack of "job security" in the coaching biz, no matter what level. Although he had the best winning percentage of any previous LSU coach, the "what have you done for me lately" factor did him in.

I agree. You can't win every game every year. There is so much big money in college football now. I went to school during the early 90's when Steve Spurrier was the coach at Florida. He won 6 SEC championships and 1 national championship in 12 seasons. I remember when he left after the 2001 season. He said winning 10 games a year wasn't good enough for the fans anymore.

I am sure Les will find another coaching job soon.

You just might have a gold mine with that 72 Lincoln that Arnie drove, Richard. Collectors would be interested, I would think. DH says Barrett-Jackson sells collectible cars. Especially since you have a letter of authentication.

Have a good day all.

My Gators looked good until they came out after halftime. Up 21-3 and then gave up 35 points. I guess after 11 straight wins over Tennessee they were due for a win.

LSU lost their coach over that game. I have never seen a game end like that.

Sorry about the Georgia loss, they sure didn't look good against Ole Miss. BTW, that LSU-Auburn game was one of the strangest endings I've ever seen. I think it's the first time I have seen both teams celebrating a victory in the same game. I kind of feel sorry for the LSU fans, they are probably still in shock.
