assist for toy hauler rear door

We have purchased a new toy hauler trailer. We are both older folks and now see that the door is a real struggle to lift back up or catch on the way down till the cables stop it. We would like to know if anyone knows of a electric lift that is available to add to the door or some other fix

I believe gorilla lift makes a floor mount assist system for retrofit. I believe they build the zero g system for Lippert/Moryde

I'm not sure how they would work on a Toy hauler ramp.

You could mount something like this in the floor

a winch will take some engineering and a pulley system unless you mount it from the ceiling the angle will be past center and it won't work. First would be to try additional counter-weight via springs. What is the model of the TH?

I like this idea. I just pulled my back a few days getting a washer out of a basement and can't imagine shutting mine right now...

I'll need to look at my rear for a safe place to mount as we have the 3 season doors. Thinking in the middle of the top with a "Y" hanger to attach at each end. Need to look at the door frame to see if it will handle the stress.

I would also look to see if additional springs can be added. Or possibly stronger springs. I don't have a TH, but my utility trailer has a very heavy loading ramp. Added strong springs to it and now it is easy even for my 74 yr old body to raise and lower it. The springs are so strong that sometimes the ramp will stop a couple inches before reaching the ground and I step on it to push it down to the ground. And raising it back up takes little effort. A good trailer shop could advise you on your options.

I had a race car trailer with a heavy door. I used a winch like the one Dirtclods posted the link for to raise and lower the door. Wasn't fast, but saved my back. Installing the winch took a bit of work, so unless you have some advanced skills you may have to visit a well equipped RV or HD trailer repair shop to install it.

Ours is a spring lift. 3 of the spring slots were empty from the factory. I added springs and that really helped (but it's still a challenge).

Sounds like a good suggestion.
