Sharon and I took off from Vancouver last Thursday. Enjoyed a 1.5 hour delay at the border. Boys at secondary loved asking about the RV. Anyway..we have taken our time..managed to make Brookings, Oregon this afternoon. Laundry and a dinner out, to celebrate.

If you are of a mind, pix can be seen off Facebook...they are open for public viewing so you don't have to belong.

A surprise to me...I thought anyone could see FB if you were being linked to an account. Not so. I will post pix to my Blog and THAT will take care of that.

We are hoping to drive to San Diego before making a sharp left turn. We have our eyes on Death Valley and perhaps Q, just because.

It's been a great trip for us. I need new RV batteries..long story you don't need to read..we can live in a 20ft space without hurting one another. We are almost home..another day or two and we'll be in the drive-way.

I am glad some of you sort of followed along and looked st the pictures. It is what I enjoy doing. I always admired Tioga George and his Blog...his income was, at it's height, $1,000 a month. I'd like to have the discipline to do that.

The snow seems to be coming in....maybe another 4 wheel drive day. I am not a total 4 wheel geek...I bought this RV because I wanted clearance and man, it has that. But I was sold on it when I first used it in the deserts of California some years ago and have never regretted buying it. I have used the 4 wheel advantage 4? times this trip..last time was a high pass between John Day and Prineville..in 4hi. For those that do not quite understand...in 4-lo you are in slow motion, almost. Very low gearing that gets you thru stuff..over stuff. Four hi will allow me to drive to a much higher rate of speed on a paved road but still have the front pulling and the rear driving...giving much better steering control. Anyway...if you ever were considering? Worth it's weight if you are given to wander like I/we do.

If there is a question you want to ask? Don't hesitate. Privately or E mail...hauptgw@gmail.com...or openly here.

Thanks, Gary for letting us go along on your trip. Beats the heck out of driving in the left lane or over nighting at rest stop BS.

Washington snow has finished falling, but temps are still getting below freezing from about 16:00 on, so it's not melting. Main roads have all been plowed, but neighborhood dead ends haven't.

It shouldn't be an issue by the time you get here.

Nice news....thank you. We'll do the planes tomorrow and see if we can get up around Yakima by Sunday.

We are very fortunate..this Regal by Triple E is a proper 3 season unit. Thermo windows and a high value insulation package..sides and underneath. I really don't much mind the cold, it's the slippin and slidin and bad drivers that gives me the willies.

Phil...Zabrisky is right on the main road. Are you referring to Dante's Overlook by any chance? If so..paved all the way. I am hard pressed to think of one dirt road I was on in DV. The road to the Amargosa River is dirt, but that is not in DV, anyway.
Gary

Gary ... yeah I think you're correct ... it must have been Dante's Overlook in DV that we turned back from trying to get to. Here's us coming back from the attempt:

Not to detach from your great trip reports in this thread, but FWIW here's a typical road and some camping we have done in DV:

Gary: I don't know if you'd head west to Washington before going north. The northern half of Washington got fairly heavy snowfalls the last week or so. Olympia got 12", Seattle a similar amount. We got 6" in Anacortes and I've heard that Bellingham really got clobbered, but don't know by how much. Their daytime highs have been below freezing for several days.

It's raining in Anacortes this morning, so we may be snow free by Saturday or Sunday.

Thanks Frankdamp...we came up out of central Nevada and are now in central Oregon..Prineville, to be specific. We'll hang out here for tonight (Thursday)..they have a brewpub with great food, I have been told by library staff..Valentines dinner, you understand. On to Madras tomorrow and scope out the Erickson Aircraft Collection...all the while just passing time. Hopefully by weekends end, the NOAA forecast holds and the snow has stopped. The we'll cross into Washington and carry on..not in a rush..just cruising. Thanks for the update.
