Gatlinburg TN winter to do

Hey guys-
We traded our Florida timeshare for a week in Pigeon Forge from 12/30-12/6. We've been RV camping there a couple times in warmer weather, but not in winter (have a condo this time). We will definitely hit Ober Gatlinburg to ski for a day, hit GSMNP for a day or 2, and hit some touristy activities in Sieverville, Gatlinburn, and Pigeon Forge.

Just wondering if there are any day trips within maybe 1 1/2 hours that you'd suggest. Thanks!!

There are a couple small museums in K'ville and the Downtown area is very walkable and lots of good restaurants. A museum outside of Townsend which is near Cades and a cave but not sure if its open. Cherokee has the museum of the Cherokee Indian and Waynesville has wheels through time museum which is great. Biltmore is a wonderful place but pricey, still worth it to see once in your life. You could do a day trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway to Mt. Mitchell, the highest point in NC and its only a little north of Asheville. It has a restaurant for a good lunch there too.

Bryson City has a train you can ride on through the mountains. There is the museum of energy in Oak Ridge. Lots of antique stores in Clinton. There is Marble Springs, the home of TN first governor John Sevier. There is a new section of the Foothills Parkway open between Walland and Wears Valley with spectacular views. Then there is always the shows to go see in PF and G'burg. Sweet Fannie Adams is a nice little Vaudville style show and there is the aquarium too. Lots to do if you seek it out.

Bass Pro out by the interstate. duh!

The Big South Fork (KY) is like the Smokies in reverse AND theres rarely anyone there. Beautiful place.

Historic Ducktown/Copperhill

Lookout Mtn/Chattanooga

Rockhounding in the Spruce Pine NC area.

Knoxville Expo Center has a decent flea market a weekend or 2 a month. they have a website you can check dates.

Knoxville Zoo isn't bad for a small town zoo.

Personally, I avoid that tourist trap of pigeon forge/gatlinburg like the plague. And if you don't like going 5mph all day with frequent stops, don't do Cades Cove. Get out and take some of the small trails in the Smokies, especially on the 'other side'. I am a local if you want to bounce anything off me via PM.

We enjoy the Cades Cove car ride or horseback whichever you prefer. Also in Chestnut Hill the Bush Bean Factory is really a cool place to spend some time at. The restaurant there is good as well.

If you are in Dandridge and in the mood for prime rib, a Taste of Dandridge is just off I-40. The locals recommended it to us and we had a nice reasonably priced meal.

All of these are within your time frame of 1.5 hrs.

Cades cove in the smokies. Itโ€™s probably about about one hour away. As mentioned there are a lot of hiking trails to choose from.

Went to Gattlinburg / Pigeon Forge one time and one time was enough for us. I'll never go back, in fact we drove right by 3 years ago on the slab. Over priced, lots of plastic and plastic people too.

Weather permitting, there are some really nice hikes to waterfalls. You can get a book with the locations of them and the difficulty of the hike.
