Generator ready - how much for 5.5 installed?

Seeing some new 5th wheel TH's that are generator ready so I assume everything is in place just need to install a 5.5 Onan. From your experiences what are talking about $$ to get one installed on a "ready" unit?

Yup, except we have 3 Ford vehicles 😉 He's still pretty nice to have around in general though, especially when the genny acts up while boondocking, with them!

I just dry camped ath RIR for the NASCAR race.. Ran the Onan for a total of 42 hours.. went through 2 @ 40# bottles.. ran the AC's on and off throughout the weekend..

This past April was a different story, we ran the Onan for a solid 65-70 Hours,It was HOT ( 100 ) the AC was on the entire time, with 2 AC's being on a good part of the days.. We ate through 5 of the 40# bottles..

My unit was gen ready.. included transfer switch... and all wiring into inside of camper and inside monitor,gauge, on/off switch... The cost included ALL propane hoses,fittings, battery cables, exhaust parts and fittings, labor..

"LP" model would be in a "conventional" tow behind or a diesel pusher where there is no gas tank like in a toy hauler.

How much propane does it use?

Good points All. I'm sure they make them optional to hit a certain price point. I'm sure that it is a negotiable item when working a deal.

I am not sure what all they leave off when the say its gen ready. But at a show last year the Cummins/Onan salesman was offering a 5.5kw EVAP model for $4,500 installed. And a 4kw for $3,500 installed. I know he said that the tank was extra if they had to get one for it. On my parents "Gen Ready" Cameo, there really isn't anything ready but the floor is pre punched for the air vent for the generator. Everything else you would have to install - tank, fuel lines, transfer switch, gen, exhaust, etc.

Quick google finds several listings for about $3,900, but not sure how much to install it. A call to a dealer will give you some idea.

Generator ready, like A/C ready, means different things to different builders. Don't assume everything is right there.

That's a weird option to leave undone. Most toy haulers come with the gen installed. It makes you wonder what else they left off.
