I have a friend who is selling his immaculate truck and 5th wheel. He has tried to discourage me from buying them because his hitch is a slider and it hangs up. According to him this complicates hooking up and unhooking because the hitch is hard to engage and disengage. Is this a problem with the sliding hitches? Or did he get a crappy hitch?

Please give this newbie some advice folks.

People will want to know the brand of the hitch.

Crappy hitch, lack of lubrication, or improperly adjusted head.

How long has your friend had it? Is it possible he never learned the easy way to unhook?

Without knowing the brand of hitch, it is not a commonly reported problem. My first thought would be that he just doesn't know how to do it properly. But even if it is a problem with the hitch, if the price is right you can always get a new hitch for not a lot of money.

There are makes of auto slider hitches that require the tv and trailer to be within a few degrees of straight to each other to hook up, unhook.
Imo and experience, auto sliders are just a gimmick. Get out and slide it back when you have to do the very rare sharp turn .

A malfunctioning hitch should NOT be the bases one uses to decide yes/no on a truck/trailer purchase.
