5th Wheel Hitch Change from 2008 to 2017

I just bought a 2017 F-350 to upgrade from my 2008.
Now my 5th wheel hitch won't work unless I buy a complete new style.
I'm not real happy to find this out and I'm sure others fill the same.
I've used Pullrite for years, Sliders, and up to 20.5K hitch's.
But they can't be adapted to these new style trucks.
You have to buy a truck with (5th Wheel Prep, or buy the frame adapters and drill the box like my last one.
I almost went to a Reese if they weren't built in (another country).
Now I have a spare outdated or Obsolete hitch.

Just made the same switch from a 26K Husky in my old F350 to B&W in the new. Simple install, about an hour as it arrives with some assembly required. Old Husky went to Craigs list.

The fifth wheel prep package, or OEM puck system, whatever you want to call it, is actually a bargain, when ordered on a new TV. I know Ford includes the in bed plug-in also. You save the cost of hiring the hitch installation, as anyone can set the base in the pucks, and lock the cams. It is just a set-in/lock-in and done. Sure you can install your own rails yourself. I've done it in 3 different trucks...not fun.

Anyway, the pucks are IMO, the best thing to date, and is the future for best FW hitch attachment. I would not bother with adapters to use old hitch. Just sell it, give to a friend, and move forward, with direct puck attaching hitch.

Yep, I hear ya.
I have to buy a new base for my B&W to work with my truck that I have on order.
My B&W is 2 pieces, the base and the head.
The head will work with the new base, but I still have to spend $500 to get me towing my 5er again.

Shoot, we had to buy a new hitch when switching from a 2015 to a 2017, so that sucked! But, the new system is really nice, and getting the hitch in and out is very easy and we have full use of the bed when it's not in, which is awesome for people like us who are nice weather vacationer campers.

PS, we were able to sell our old hitch locally for a really good price via Facebook Marketplace.

It's been a while but I wanted to add for someone that they do make adapters so you don't have to buy and entirely new hitch. In fact I'm buying an airsafe fifth wheel he itch and getting the rail kind with the adapter. Helps with future compatibility. Also if I need to out it in a different truck it will work.

The new truck is Fifth Wheel Prep'. Is that what you call "puck system"?
And the new hitch I got is made for Ford Fifth Wheel Prep Only.
On the 2008 Truck and hitch, I installed brackets to the frame and drilled holes in the bed. Very same kind of idea to these new ones.
I dropped in a pin, turned it a 1/4 turn and then installed the rails for the hitch to hook to.
Thats why the old hitch won't work, they don't make a frame bracket kit for these newer trucks. Ford,Chevy, or Dodge.
I'm sure they could have came up with something but it's easyier to just make everybody buy a complete new hitch.

So you opted to not get the puck system in yours? Loved that system in my Ram. I used my old hitch by purchasing the new style legs. There was also the picture frame adapter you could buy to use the old style hitch. Sounds like not opting for the puck system could end up costing a lot more in the long run.

Just upgraded to a 5th wheel and new truck. I love the new puck system. I can turn 4 cams and pull the hitch leaving the bed clean.

I like how the new beds don't have the frame rails in them.
Let us know how that aluminum bed works out for ya.

I got it on ebay, and I'm sure it will sell for few bucks.
It's the fact they worked it the way they did.
They could have build a frame rail kit that's fits a 2017. But what moneys in that ?
I want to see what other hitch makers did the same thing.
