I-40 CA to DFW then on to Galveston - suggestions?

Trip in August. Hope to avoid the heat for a while by using I-40 instead of I-10. Might be convinced otherwise.

31 foot class A. Driving most days, generally 200-250 miles.

From Amarillo I would take US 287 to I-35W, south to I-20, east to I-45, then south toward Houston. Can’t say about the best way to get thru or around Houston.

You will miss the heat of southern AZ, NM, and southwest TX. But northern NM and all of TX will still be hot.
