Just past the National Atomic Museum on 20th Street NW is a large convention hotel that is lightly used. We stayed there overnight a few years ago. Well lighted area. Very near Old Town.
Look at google earth.

Oh we know about how wonderful it is we have visited before but always in hotels we were hoping to go to dinner at the church street dinner and don't want to have to drive after some margaritas.
we will be visiting in the fall so the heat should not be too bad.
I blive it is the parking lot near the museum from what I can tell.

Can't think of anything but Sandia, Isleta, and Route 66 casinos allow overnight camping and are within 15 -20 minutes of Old Town area. ABQ daytime temps are 80-90 degrees depending on monsoon activity and humidity levels are peaking this time of year, AC usage will be required for a comfortable stay.

I owned a shop in Old Town for a couple of years and I never heard of an RV parking area. The only place large enough for an RV is the parking lot at the big museum and I never saw an RV there (expensive to park there anyway). There are not any boondocking areas in or very near to Albuquerque that I am aware of and I live here. I think you can park at some of the casinos for free but some of them charge (the ones that charge have hookups from what I have heard). Hope you find something that meets your needs because Albuquerque is a great place to visit.

Kind of doubtful that you'll find many opportunities to overnight for free (not the same as boondocking!) in the middle of the city. You'd have to head up into one of the national forests nearby or onto some of the blm lands around.
