I believe Rivian is not yet installing the largest battery. Need max for significant towing.
Never going to have the single tank range of any diesel with the present battery technology.

The “max pack” is pushed till 2024 at this point. No definitive date.

Nice looking rig, appears to be in the same chassis as pickup. No plates out.

I think I've seen one or two around here. I don't know if Rivian will get it together and approach the production capacity of Tesla. Their R1S certainly looks much better than a Tesla Model Y, both in terms of looks and practicality. However, the sticker price is not very practical for either one.

The production ramp is ongoing but it’s taking longer than some thought it would. One interesting thing is they are following teslas lead on developing their own private DC fast charging network. Their L2 network is open to the public but their DC fast charge network is exclusive to Rivian. It will be interesting to see how fast it develops.

I'm surprised Rivian kept the hideous front cap and headlight treatment of the truck for the SUV. The rest of the vehicle looks fine. I have a friend in Seattle who has a long time deposit on the SUV. He tells me they are going to hold his price which was prior to their large price increases. He promised me a ride when he gets it which sounds like may be soon.

Well they are as fast as they are ugly!
I’d love to have a ripper 11 second EV. But even though it smoked a TRX, if I had to drop $100k on a pickup truck for some silly reason it would be a TRX Redeye or the baddest new diesel 1 ton in my favorite color! Not an ugly midsize toaster oven.

Et tu, Mar-tay?

This forum should be retitled "Rag on EVs."

Oh for the days of a good old fashioned gas vs. diesel, or you-need-a-dually-for-that thread. I'd even settle for an oil argument or a tire discussion. Maybe I should start a tire thread because the tires on my late Dad's truck are worthless off pavement.

ROTFLMAO ??????

I have to admit, lately the flaming part has subsided on all these topics when they pop up. A lot easier for my brain electron to deal with the issues.

With all that said, I can see and appreciate the comments given.

BUT if towing ability is like the pickup, that's that's 10-15k lbs iirc. No slouch power wise. Looks good. Issue which hopefully will improve is a bigger tank per say, and better quicker and more fueling abilities. Tes I'm using ICE terms per say. As finally being said in another thread, folks are seeing the places these will work, vs not! No different than comparing my current 1500 gas ext cab to my older crew cabs, dump flatbeds, or S10 rig. Their tools!

^ IMO, it's about bang for the buck with whatever purchase one is making that fits their needs or wants. In the case of these severely inflated price "big" EVs, the meter is basically pegged on the "wants" side. And that's fine.
If you want an 11 second midsize wanna be pickup truck that looks like a Hinda Ridgeline got punched in the nose, for a cool $120k+ in pocket change, have at 'er. Stimulate the economy all you want.
Just don't pretend you're "saving" anything. It's like saying you bought a Ferrari because they're aerodynamic which makes them more efficient....

But hey, now the same govt that is subsidizing the EV industry heavily, effectively promoting them is now raising safety concerns about the vehicles weight and how they are more harmful to others in crashes....lol.

Their natural market is service companies. Electricians and Plumbers etc. That drive locally. And at that price I doubt they will get very far.
The towing ranges I've seen are 100 miles or less. And bigger battery means heavier weight and that means lower carry capacity. An unbreakable problem with chemical batteries.

Furthermore this cold wave has generated all sorts of news stories of people discovering the cold facts of battery life. I saw one of someone trying to go cross country at Christmas and getting a one hundred mile range, and finding that some chargers do no work in cold temps and those that do took two hours for a charge. They spent more time, and lots of money, at chargers than they did driving. In Europe charger costs exceeded gasoline costs.

I thought Rivian was going teets up! Maybe I'm mistaken.

At this point, I have absolutely no desire to purchase any EV.
