We just purchased a new home and I would like to protect it with a do it yourself security system, I never have had one before.
Can any one who has installed one and like it suggest what to get and the cost

SimpliSafe is do it yourself install and wireless with paid monitoring. Neighbor has it for about 2 years and he likes it.Think he has about $300 in it,but he monitors 2 out buildings a long way from his house also.

I have had my Simplisafe system for 7+ years and I am very satisfied. I am going to upgrade to their newest system so I can incorporate cameras and they are going to discount the new system by 50% for being a loyal customer.

Do you want a security system that is monitored by a third party? Or just cameras, intrusion devices, motion sensors, etc. that send an alert to you?

Another vote for Simplisafe. I have had it for several years.

For the most part a home security system is a placebo. It makes you feel better without really doing anything. Well, it will give you a video record that you can keep like a diary so you can go back and review and feel bad again. The police can't and won't do anything with it unless someone is murdered.

If you want to do something, buy a few of the cheapest exterior cameras you can find and mount them conspicuously around the house; no need to connect them. Then buy signs that say video security system installed. There are plenty available on Amazon. That should be enough to move the thieves to a different house, and you have no ongoing costs.

We are also sold on simply safe. We were able to use the recording to identify an intruder in an out building. The system is relatively inexpensive, simple to maintain, and our police do not require a murder to conduct an investigation.

No matter what system you buy, get a water dish and a heavy dog lead to attach near a door. That alone will scare off some intruders.

Thank you all.
It looks like I'll look into the Simplisafe system

I have Simpli-Safe in my barn which houses my landscape equipment. We have a built-in home system but recently installed Blink cameras for the house. Very pleased with both set-ups.

Getting ready to add some Blink cameras inside the barn.
