I recall some downright dangerous things we did as youngsters, growing up in Long Island NY.
For example, we would divide into 2 groups, standing at a distance from each other, and fire roman candles or bottle rockets at each group. fortunately, we were quick enough to dodge the fireballs coming towards us.
Also, we would tie an ash can firework to an arrow, light it, and fire the arrow straight up into the sky where it would explode. Of course, the arrow would come down and land who knows where.
Placing a cherry bomb or ash can under a tin can and watching it fly up into the air was another source of entertainment.
We'd also light a string of firecrackers and throw it at someone's feet
Amazingly, no one ever got hurt. I guess our youthful reflexes kept us out of danger! ![[emoticon]](https://forums.motorhome.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/wink.gif "wink")

Didn't do but heard of putting a pack of firecrackers in someones rear pocket and lighting it. Is there a statute of limitations on fireworks in the 60/70's? ![[emoticon]](https://forums.motorhome.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/scratchead.gif "scratchead")
M-80's under the neighbors garbage cans. Best landing was can on the garage roof.
Dropping a match in the fireworks box. Wish I could run half as fast now.
We didn't have all the warning labels back then,so stupid things were safe I guess.

I was around 13-14 when a classmate wanted to see what happens when you stuff a tin can with firecrackers and have your brother set them off while you're holding the can in your hand. He lost 3 fingers, part of his palm, the sight in one eye, and various other lacerations. A few years later he was featured on a statewide fireworks safety PSA.

We weren't allowed to handle fireworks as kids.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be Douglas Adams
RV-less for now but our spirits are still on the open road.

I was about 11 and the next door kid was about 1 year older and his bright idea was to take empty 22 cal bullet shells he got from somewhere and take those wooden matches, snap the match head off and cram as many as possible into the empty shell. Once we got that shell packed, stand it upright and smack it with a large hammer. It gave a loud SNAP like a gun shot sound.That worked well for about 5 or 6 times, then one of the brass shells blew apart shooting a piece of brass into my forearm. Told my mom I caught it on a nail, she pulled the piece out and put a butterfly bandage on and doused it with that stuff that stung like heck. No more banging bullet shells while I finished growing up...could have been WAY worst than the small hole I got.

When does "kid" end?
A group of us, late 20s/early 30s going to set off fireworks. Raining, so decide instead of riding out in country, we would stay on the pouch. Nobody had a flashlight, so we are reading labels by the light of Zippos. I found one that said "lantern". Hung it on a handy hook over our head. That thing started to spin and shoot sparks. Bikers looked like the cue ball hitting the rack. Spin stops we all start in out of rain, some of the fire that fell in the box found something exciting, and we're off again!
And yes, alcohol was involved.

We forget, don't we, that when we were 18ish, our brains had not yet gelled, and we were prone to doing stupid things, at least in part because we knew we were invulnerable. There is a reason we don't let 17 year olds sign contracts, drink, etc.
I am not going to tell you about any of MY peccadillos even though I do have a 6 inch scar from one of them. All I'm going to say is God I'm glad none of them actually killed me, even though I was threatened by such a penalty a couple times by parental units.

Gowing up in the 50's we had a lot of fun as kids and thankfully no one was seriously injured. I used to make bolt bombs by using two large bolts and a nut in the middle, then tear of caps and pack the nut with the black part of the caps. The two bolts were hand tightened and then tossed into the air, when the spinning bomb hit the street, the impact would cause the device to explode sometimes causing one of the bolt ends to fly off but not too far. Watched too many WW2 movies, I guess.
