Why is it every time you go into a camping world store at the checkout they want you to sign up for credit cards etc and renew your membership even though you have another six months before it expires?

Every store is like that now wanting you to sign up for the credit card or the loyalty program. Good Sam and Camping World in particular are tone deaf on these points

CW is not alone with checkout suggested addons and credit card applications. Are you also ragging on other retailers? Not fair if you aren’t and those retailers don’t let you post it on their website.

It's similar to a few years ago when every store would ask if you will donate a dollar to X, Y or Z.
Now they ask if you want to round up your bill for a donation.
The check out people get stuck selling more product.

Especially bad at ALL big box stores, not just GS and CW. Too many to list.
Sometimes I'll preempt the question by stating I just want to check out with no donations, applications, or renewals.

Common practice with a lot of stores now. And if you subscribe to any magazines you probably get renewal notices at least 6-9 months before it expires.

It's simple. The employee gets a bonus for each new credit card he opens and each renewal he lands. Not exactly rocket science to figure this one out.

May be true for Camping World but not other retailers

At least CW lets you shop first!
At Cabela's, you take two steps into the store and they have a person asking you to sign up for their credit card.
What about online retailers? Many (if not most) online purchases from stores come with a popup thingy that explains how much better your shopping would be if you got so-and-so's credit card.
