Hello, everyone. Just wondering if any of you fellas have used a prostate supplement that actually worked. I’m very skeptical of any OTC medical product pushed in TV ads, and would like to obtain first hand experience from others.
So, have any of you guys found anything that actually works, such as Super Beta Prostate, or similar? Thanks in advance for your experiences.
BTW, I do take a daily Vit D supplement, prescribed by my doctor. I’ve also read reviews of Super Beta Prostate, and the responses were mixed, many saying they were pleased, others claiming no effect, even causing a racing heartbeat in one instance.
Thanks in advance for your comments, Mr. Ed

Well, I'm not a guy - but after Ed's father was diagnosed with prostate cancer, Ed started taking Saw Palmetto (currently "Havasu Nutrition" from Amazon; 500 mg per capsule) and a couple of decades later at age 74, he still sleeps all night long and has a good PSA number.
In the last few years, Ed's younger brother began having prostate problems. He takes no supplements.
I personally think the supplement has helped.

I never found an OTC med that was very useful for my BPH My primary care doctor prescribed Finasteride and the improvement was quite noticeable. Previously, a gastroenterologist I saw prescribed Flomax, and several hours after the first dose I ended up in the emergency department for 5 hours after fainting from low blood pressure and doing a face plant into the floor. Apparently I don't tolerate the primary ingredient, tamsulosin, very well.

I had a history of kidney stones (you don't want to go there) and take Tamsulosin (generic Flowmax) to keep the "pipes" open between the kidney and bladder. I don't know what effect it has on the prostate (your doc can answer that). But I also take Finasteride (trade name for Propecia) which is supposed to shrink the prostate by as much as 30%. Finasteride (Propecia) is cheap. personally, I trust what my doc tells me rather than some pitchman on TV. best advice...ask your doctor.

Fact is
Different people react in different ways to different drugs.
Herbal supplements can have unintended consequences completely unrelated to their intended purpose. How many Rx do I take? Then # of supplements? Aggregate total of possible combinations?
My advice is to get opinions from both doctor(s) and pharmacists
Then if ANY unexpected side effects occur, report it without delay.

I take the Flomax about an hour before bed, it works about 90% of the time, the odd day maybe one every two to three weeks, I get a couple more urges at night. My brother was on it but it doesn't work for him anymore. He's going to have the walnut shrunk by non invasive lazer surgery.

Called upon a Urologist.. That is one of the 3 he prescribed. The 3 together seem to have made a major improvement in my life.

Flomax is the name brand drug and Uroxatrol and Tamsulosin are the genarics. I take Tamsulosin and do fine. Prescription only so .....best to see the Urologist and get your PSA number. Cancer doesn't discriminate.
