Not only is it easy, but they couldn't care less about how much paint damage the do taking it off. Cheaper in the long run to just let them take the gas.
Good point. Like locking your vehicle.
On jobsites with theft issues, we leave job trucks unlocked. Beat's replacing a window or punched in door lock, etc, just for the thief to find nothing of real value.
Not sure what treasure they think is left on the side of a freeway in a dirty old pickup with a couple pairs of used gloves, some earplugs and a grungy safety vest maybe laying on the seat.

No locking gas cap they stick a siphon hose in the tank and drain you.

Hate to have to say this but the best solution is to stay with your rig when you're not in a secured park.

How about a small sensor inside the gas tank door that sets off an alarm in your cell or added to the vehicle alarm.

For over twenty years now including camping, hiking, fishing in remote areas and parking in big cities such as SFO never a problem with my three trucks. I love my locking gas caps and two prong steering wheel locks that are highly visible from the outside. Whatever floats your boat then do it. TTB SAB

I had a lock cap for a truck once and lost the key. Did a little research and learned they are designed to easily bypass the lock with a simple tap with a hammer and screwdriver.

My RV's gas filler is recessed. I bought a universal "door" and put it over the opening and added a micro switch tied to the alarm. When armed, it works the same as someone opening a door. The only issue (didn't think of this when doing the initial install so had to redo it) I need to hold the fuel nozzle at an angle so I ended up having to orient the hinge at the top. The door doesn't have a lock as I use a locking gas cap. The purpose is to get any thief to open that door to trigger the alarm.

Which cost less a tank full of fuel or new tank? I choose not to require them to rupture my tanks.

The locking gas caps are mostly just for piece of mind. I had a used Jeep Wrangler I bought as a daily driver that came with one but no key. It was locked but a key wasn't needed. Just firmly squeeze the edges of the gas cap together while turning and it spins right off. Squeezing the edges together keeps the outer shell from turning freely when locked so you can still take the cap off.
