Johns Hopkins still has their dashboard with county statistics. It has become more difficult to find current local transmission rates as many states no longer publish the information. There are areas where transmission rates warrant the extra precautions when in crowded, indoor, poorly ventilated areas.
Another issue is that there are new variants of the omicron variant that are starting to show up. CDC has vaccination recommendations. The multi-valent vaccine is supposed to offer better protection against these variants.
My personal experience was infection a little over 1 year ago (probably Delta variant) about 7 months after my 2nd Pfizer shot and broke with symptoms the same day I got the booster. I had 3-4 days of fever, aches and cough for a couple of weeks.
I got my multi-variant vaccination last month and had a sore arm for a day.

Got my updated covid booster and flu shot at the same time with zero side effects. Can't get enough protection IMO.

We got the Omicron-variant Pfizer booster about 2 weeks ago, with minimal side effects (slightly-sore arm for a day). Then we got the flu shot - it was my first time getting that stronger-dose "senior" version and it was more of a butt-kicker. Sore arm, needed multiple naps. Fortunately I am able to indulge in those naps :-) Too many people around me are going back to their old routines - 2 of my daughters attended a concert together and brought home Covid. I feel a lot braver when I've been vaxxed; but we still avoid crowds/concerts, etc

Free radical,
I've been fully vaccinated and have had direct exposure 4 times. I failed to contract covid.
My guess is I got lucky, or have a good immune system, or both!
I'm nervous as I fly tomorrow--and masks are no longer required.

I'm in the airport in Regina. I have not seen anyone else wearing a mask.
I guess folks like to gamble.

Hi Don,
Masking does little except to muffle which is does excellently.
To demonstrate take a mask outside on a cold day. Breathe normally, sing, shout, and any other breathing activity you wish to test.
Then mask up. Do you see the difference. Bottom line is the mask limits the travel of condensation. Now the where and why of distancing becomes clear. The medical community made for poor communications about why masking is important around other people.
Cheers to good health and fortune.

Mex, don’t you need to know what type of mask (cloth, surgical, kn95, n95, etc) before you make such a statement (masking does little)? Do I need to repost the “real world effectiveness” studies on masks?
I am currently not wearing masks because of my vaccination status and recent infection during BA.5 and community levels are low here. My parents wear masks 100% because my father has an autoimmune disease which minimizes his immune response to vaccination. One of my coworkers is wearing a mask because he will be visiting his grandmother soon and doesn’t want to inadvertently bring her Covid.
