The border is not closed to Canadians. If your friend has a Canadian passport they cannot refuse entry. Something is missing in that story.

But I read it on the Internet.

I said “When he arrived at the Canadian border this morning he was told the border was closed to land crossings other than essential traffic.”.

They can, and have, RESTRICTED how & where you can cross. Under the Quarantine Act they have broad powers to restrict travel, even within Canada.

Maybe he should have gone to a different crossing. The major crossings are all open. Canada does not have any regs not allowing Canadians to return but maybe some of the smaller crossings are only taking commercial traffic. That story stillsmells.

So it sounds to me that the guy flew down and tried to bring back his parents coach that they left down there last spring when "little man" {I call trudope little-boy and ford fat-man} sounded the ALL CANADIANS RETURN HOME call without thinking about how it would affect we snowbirds,,, according to the Canadian embassy I spoke to last spring while still in Florida {we stayed until the end of April with no covid infection nor to date has anyone else we know contracted this plague as of today} that as long as we have valid passports we CANNOT be denied entry!

Today Canada has hinted at further strict regulations. One of them would be self quarantine at a hotel for 14 days at your expense. They are also going to make some changes at land crossings. So even though you cannot be refused entry it will be difficult. I could not spend 14 days in a hotel.

Quote:

On Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged Canadians to rethink all travel plans inside and outside Canada's borders, particularly as March break approaches.

"People should not be planning non-essential travel or vacation travel outside of the country, particularly because, as I said a few days ago, we could be bringing in new measures that significantly impede your ability to return to Canada at any given moment without warning," Trudeau cautioned.

Well, this seems a clear enough message. Travel and you have made your bed, so don't complain after the fact that you are hard done by.

Yeah I watched "Little Boy's" latest" video and what I find odd is that according to "Fat Man's" recent rant on how weekly 62.00+ people are flying into Pearson International in Toronto that aren't REQUIRED to follow quarantine protocols ( mind you we do ask them to politely do so,,,) but we Canadian snowbirds (oh by the way Frau Blücher
and I don't know any of our friends either here or in Florida that have actually contracted covid) are being stopped from going to our hard earned winter vacation spots,, did I mention we don't know anyone that has covid???

There Is high level discussion amongst the medical experts about potentially extending the quarantine to 21 days.

Because of existing travel restrictions it’s been tough to get a handle on this, but there have been a noticeable number of people becoming sick a longer time following a potential exposure than conventional wisdom says should be possible.

The first definitive case has just been published. A woman returned to New Zealand from Europe, went through the usual 14 day quarantine and the 10 days after that tested positive!

New Zealand first new case.

Any Canadian thinking of traveling outside the country should put those plans on hold. There are so many new rules and more to come. Even truck drivers may require a quick test before returning. Can you imagine the chaos at Ont./Michigan crossings. I do not think the US/Can.land borders will open for non essential crossings until 2022.

....boy, that is the understatement of the century [emoticon]

If any Canadians get a chance, read the Canada Emergencies Act (the EA replaces the War Measures Act; the EA assented to in 1988).

The Canadian Federal government will have supranational powers over every Canadian and over every Canadian Charter law. This means that all and every Canadian right(s) are suspended temporarily. Here it is: the EA-->

If you are outside Canada for any reason(s) but essential service, military or Federal government business, ya better get home now, or you better have financial means to live abroad for the next 2, 3, 4 or 5+ months. This may mean that when your existing travel health insurance expires when you are abroad, good luck acquiring any extension.
