Can worn kingpins be refurbished?

My kingpin is showing a lot of wear after 13 years of long trips. I believe that big truck semi-trailer kingpins can be refurbished, but what about RV fifth-wheels? Do you really have to replace the entire kingpin assembly, which can cost upwards of a $thousand?

I had mine welded. It had a groove worn in it about 1/4" deep. Works pretty well.

Did you keep it greased?

Not sure how you wear one out, if cleaned and greased regularly?

Take your box and a new pin to ANY welding shop. It's nothing special. Craig

If unsure where or how to locate a semi trailer repair shop, contact a local Ryder or Penske semi rental shop for help in locating one.

Why not consider replacing the pinbox. It's not that difficult and not that expensive.

Here's an example

I don't see why not, one would need to find a good welding shop that knows how to replace a king pin do it.

Why would bolt on kingpins cost thousands?
