Looking at this 5th wheel (2020 Cougar 368mbi). Wondering if my truck would be safe hauling it. Here are my truck specs:

2017 Ford Super Duty F250
XLT 4X4 CREW CAB
6.2L FI FFV V8
3.73 axle ratio
10,000 lb GVWR package
160โ€ wheel base
Regular bed
Towing package

No other modifications.

Nope. Still need less fifth wheel or more truck, IMO.

We currently have a travel trailer an went camping yesterday. We loaded the F250 and trailer like we always do, so we were fully loaded. I went to the CAT Scales and pulled on their 3-scale system (front axle on one, rear on another and trailer on the last scale). We all stayed in the truck by the way. Front axle was 3,860, rear was 4,880 and trailer was 7,360. Total axle weight was 16,100. We were able to determine that we carry 698 pounds of "stuff", not including people and pet. Does this have any bearing on anyones comments above?

I have this exact same model from 2019, bought the first one the dealership ever received. I pull with a 2016 Chevy Duramax 2500, and havn't had any problems. I will say, however, that in normal towing circumstances, this is the max that I would ever pull. Without a diesel engine, I really don't think it would work well for you.

If OPs truck tires/wheels are within spec, similar to F350, his truck can be made to safely handle this FW, with minor modifications. Where he may come up short, is his drive train capability. The 6.2 with 3.73 gears is going to be a disappointment, towing in wind, and uphill. If not towing long distance, locking out upper gears, towing slower, having patience in extreme conditions, it will work.

And you can...but the 250 canโ€™t carry the weight of you, your family, your stuff and the pin.

Initial look is you need more truck or less trailer.

Look at the trucks payload capacity and figure a loaded pin weight for the trailer at something closer to 2600 to 2800 lb.

the weights are similar to mine, and I can tell you that the hitch weight will more realistically be in the 2300 to 2500lb range. mine was advertised at 2200 and came in at 2800lbs so I had to trade my 3/4 ton ford in on a 1 ton with the 11500 payload.

if you already have the truck fill up the gas tank and take it and scale the front and rear end then you know exactly what you have for capacity. I don't worry so much about the payload rating but rather the individual axel loading. so for instance my rears can handle 7000lb max, empty I am about 2800lbs so I can add about 4200 lbs before I am at a limit.

A forty foot 5er that is 11,695 pounds dry and about 14,000 loaded? Dry pin weight of 2,000 pounds? Not with a 3/4 ton truck IMO.
