My '06 RAM 3500, 5.9l Cummins, 185k miles, recently started vibrating on me. Took it to the local Dodge dealer and they diagnosed flywheel, $4k to repair. Looking for input about options/alternatives. I'll be checking Cummins dealers to see if they could also do it and what their cost would be. I'm leery of taking it to a local mechanic since I'm a fulltimer and recourse could be problematic if it develops a problem 2000 miles away. Maybe some national chain mechanic? Transmission shop?

I'd take a good diesel shop over any dealer as soon as the warranty is no longer in effect.

When does it vibrate? All the time ? If it's a manual transmission and the flywheel has hot spots that can cause a vibration on take off. If it's an automatic not sure how the flywheel will cause a vibration.

I have the 6 speed manual. Vibration is at idle and while driving. Not bad now and it appears I have time to look at different options.

Even if it was a flywheel and clutch it wouldn’t be anywhere near $4k. Keep shopping around!

Dual mass flywheel do your self a favor and contact South Bend clutch and see what they offer to rid yourself of it. Maybe a nice dual disk clutch, way less than $4K even with a shop install.

What clutch did you put in it last? How long ago?
Other symptoms?
Either way, it's much closer to a $2k job, WITH a good aftermarket clutch including installation.

It's the original clutch. No other symptoms. Driveline U joints were replaced a couple years ago.

Take it to a place that specializes in clutches.
I paid $1200 for an upgraded clutch (SBC). It would probably be another $150 for a new flywheel.
