In my opinion, 42 is a much better and safer route. Of course it all depends on your starting and stopping points and your need for speed.

Like Tin-Bender says, Bandon to Coquille may have you questioning why you took that route but once past that, it's fine. Just take you time, windy, tight curves.

42s from Bandon to Coquille is a little windie and narrow in spots but very doable. From Coquille on to I-5 42 is all good except for a little bit between Remote and Camas Valley. Pull my 24 foot TT through there all the time. Beautiful Drive.
Just after you cross the bridge and before you turn onto 42 and into Coquille there is a county park on the left side, great place to stop, lots of room to park.
