Mama Gerties

Just booked a night at Mama Gerties in early October. The only site they had available and only for Sunday night. Is this campground worth the hype? We've often heard how wonderful it is, so we just had to find out.
We like to consider ourselves more campers than RVers and are not use to the RV Park scene. Don't care for the shoulder to shoulder parking, need some space. Did we make a mistake? Oh well just gotta find out for ourselves.
Our 2351D Phoenix Cruiser, Jack, has turned us from campers into RVers and loving it!

We stayed there for two nights in 2015. We don't usually stay at RV Parks. We thought it was nice and very clean. We had a site in the lower section. It was in the middle and the sites are terraced. We were out exploring most of the time. We would stay again! On our way home we stayed at Roan Mountain State Park, TN very nice, then a night at Laurel creek RV park (15 sites by river)in Damascus, VA to bike ride the Virginia creeper trail. Enjoy your trip! Safe travels! Marcia
If you decide to visit the last two stops mentioned be sure to go to the Interstate to get to Damascus and not what looks like a shorter way! It was very curvy, narrow, awful to pull a trailer.

Top deck sites are unique but the others are not special at all- we stayed at Bear Creek and liked it

Yep- we stayed at Bear Creek before, but liked the view at MG's

We stayed there in Apr 2018 to visit Biltmore in our 24ft class C. We thought it was nice and very unique being on such a huge hill/mountain side. We were in lower sections which was OK since we broke camp each day to drive MH to Biltmore. Our site was very level...in fact it really surprised me how level it was. The way the road is going uphill it is kind of mind deception but when we got MH into site parking area, it was dead level. Walking the dog around the camping loops was a chore, at least the uphill part.

Agree. We drove thru it, and would only stay in the top section, if we ever wanted to stay there. The lower section sites were close together, and not at all level.

Our favorite park in the Asheville, NC area is the Lake Powhatan Recreation Area campground in the Pisgah National Forest. The "Lakeside" loop (that isn't lakeside) has full hookups, and the sites are spacious. You won't find sites the size of the one below at any private RV parks in the area.

We stayed at Mama Gerties April of 2018. We had a site at the top and it was awesome, the lower sites did look a bit close together and obviously didn't have the views we had. IMHO our site was worth the extra $$$, we enjoyed our stay there. Would we stay there again? In a New York minute IF we could book a site at the top again!

Good luck with your decision.

Mama Gerties is more of a base camp for seeing other sites in the area. It works well for that. If you are more into nature camping, I recommend state parks and COEs.

We also had to try it. Sites small and closely packed. Was nice and quiet. Had young bear cub visit but we didn't see it. We hear up top views nice. We will look elsewhere next year.

We drove trough once and to us, unless you get the top spots, just another CG. We much prefer https://www.campfirelodgings.com/ Much more personal, smaller place but great views if you get the premium sites, or nearby.

My DWโ€™s brother and his wife weโ€™re just there a few months ago. Stayed at the very top and said the view was great. They also said MaMa Gerties was a one and done place for them. Saw it but didnโ€™t get a t-shirt.
