Furrion Observation Camera Wiring

My Rockwood came pre wired for a Furrion backup/observation camera. I connected it today, but it only works when I turn my headlights on. My truck is a 2019 GMC and the lights are auto. Running lights during the day and lights come on at dark. I obviously want the camera on day or night when I’m towing. Is there a way to fix this or am I stuck with having to manually override my headlights when towing during daylight hours?

I want my camera on while towing and my system is wired to my clearance lights. Best to be seen and always being able to see behind the coach. I’m towing with a 2013 F350 DWD and have to activate the lights from the cab.

It’s not what you’ve done that commands respect, it’s what you do.

Our 16 Montana came wired hot all the time and the camera died in about 8 months. When I called Furrion to see about warranty they ask if it was powered all the time, and I said yes. The lady told me they don't specify it but it should not run 24/7. They sent me a new one, I sent them the bad one and I changed it to run off the marker lights with no more issues. Don't know if Montana still wires them that way but the manufacture does not recommend it.

I believe most all Forest River trailer prewiered require the TV light on power the camera. Our 18 Cardinal is that way.

Yes, my son has a Grand Design and his is wired hot as long as his trailer has 12 volts. It’s not tied to the tow vehicle at all. On my Rockwood, they just tapped into one of the back running lights for power, hence why my headlights have to be on.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll just turn the switch when I want the camera on, or use the fog light button.

Ditto here on the other comments. I manually turn the lighting control to running lights and pull for the fog lights. This turns on power to the trailer's running lights and the camera and I figure it increases my visibility to others on the road, too.

My Riverstone is wired the same may. I just turn on my fog lights which in turn turns on the running lights and my camera. My fog lights automatically shut off when the key is turned off, no worries about forgetting to turn off head lights.

That is how they are wired on the camper.... My 2020 Redwood is the same way....

When I want to see behind me, I flip the switch to turn on lights. The camera gets it's power from the trailer running lights..

You can always tow with lights on if you wish.
