Is a 13,000 BTU AC enough for a 22' trailer?

We are considering a Flagstaff Micro Lite 21ds. The standard AC is 13,000 btu? Is that adequate or should we upgrade to the 15,000 unit?

Thanks,
Dennis

You should ok with that size trailer. I recommend you get a fan for that mid day boost.

If you are having issues with your AC, watch the video below. I have a 15k that didn't seem to be functioning the way it should. After watching the video I inspected my AC and found the foam separator to be very mis-aligned with a huge gap so that the hot air was mixing with the cold air. I was almost to the point of installing a second AC...this video saved me spending big bucks!

Increasing AC Performance.

Come is to SC or GA this weekend and park in the sun and you can find out. Expecting temps close to 100*.

If you can, get a heat pump model. That way, when you are in a campground and the nights are cool (40 ish or so) you have some heat without burning up your propane. My MotorHome, now sold, had a heat pump and I made good use of it on several occasions.

18' trailer with a large slide, 13.5 worked fine even in 110F heat in southern NM with 5 people inside. For us the bigger problem is the passthrough space, that heats up when the nose cap is in sunlight (why they chose to paint the diamond plate black instead of leaving it stainless I have no clue) and heats the master bed from underneath. I'm fixing that soon with a 12V computer fan (Noctua NF-A12x25, virtually silent) to force cooled or in the shoulder seasons heated air into the passthrough.

Check the price of the upgrade. When we ordered our 35 ft trailer it was only like $150 to upgrade to the 15K AC. Glad we did. We had the 13.5K unit in our old 25 ft trailer and it could barely keep up on a very hot day.

13.5k is sufficient.

It will be more than enough. No problem! I have a 15K on a 35' trailer. Takes a while to cool but keeps it plenty cool after that even into 90 degree days. My old 30' had a 13.5 and same thing. You will be fine

A cheap upgrade, was a $181.00 option from Flagstaff two years ago for a Coleman and not Dometic garbage.

To OP, For your size TT, 13.5K will work fine.

Our Jayco 23RB is 23.3' long box, (280"), or 187 sq ft, and the 13.5k A/C cools it just fine. I don't know if being ducted forward to the bed area, to the bathroom in the rear, or the living/galley area in the middle helps with the overall cooling or not.

If I were ordering one brand new, I'd go ahead and opt for the 15k unit, since that option at Jayco was only about $150 more and a little more never hurts.

We've got a 29' box with only a 13.5, and it does ok. At the beach with no shade and mid day temps around 97-98, it could not keep up, and the inside temps got to the mid 79's.

I found lots of heat coming through the bathroom. I cut foam to fit in the skylight, and vent opening, and that made a huge difference.

The smaller unit might be easier for a portable generator to handle if there will be any future dry camping... we had a 24โ€™ trailer with a 13.5 in it and you could hang meat inside.

I have a 23' Jayco 23RB. The 13.5k BTU A/C keeps the trailer plenty cool. You should be fine with that size.

Now, if I were special ordering a new TT, even of my current size, I'd go ahead and op for a 15k unit.

Said another way, a 13.5k unit would never be a deal killer, but if I had a choice, I'd opt for the 15k unit.
