GMC Sierra 3500 diesel dually MPG

I’m thinking about buying a truck and a 20k 5er, and wanted to get an idea of mpg.

If I’m traveling on the highways at 65 mph, do you have an idea on the mpg I might get. I’m hoping others have a similar setup, and might be able to share their experiences.

Thanks in advance

I get between 10 & 11 (22L/100KM)
GVWR on my Cameo is 16K and I'm pretty close to that, put on over 12,000 miles, mostly towing, from January to present.

If my wife's surgery recovery keeps going well we will be traveling South in late Oct. One month later than normal.

We have traveled enough on our 05 chev dually and 2001 alpenlite to know what is the normal for us. Usually 11 mpg with more at times and less at times. 22920 combined weight. Math but the truck was correct before 2009 when the speedometer had an issue. Now it is close but correct is how I want the answer to be.
I guess 05 is not a modern diesel engine but ok for us.

You and I travel similar paths towing. You are at 11 and I am at 9 average. Difference is weight I would say as my combined load is 10,000# heavier than yours.

same as all the other trucks that size..about 10mpg. Doesn't matter what make, not any difference. I've had a couple different ones.

If your spending that much on a rig, the only reason mpg should matter is to figure out how long you can drive between fuel stops.

With that much weight I would say 8-10. I’d be shocked to see it above 10, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it dips slightly below 8 if you are bucking wind.

At 65 highway with that size FW I'd bet on 9-10. The new DEF equipped diesels get close to the mileage of the older pre-emission diesels, with a lot more power and in much nicer trucks.

We are running a 16000 fiver and average 9.8 non interstate and 8.5 on interstate driving. I know you are just asking but honestly mpg when rving should not even factor into your decision. You can count on around 9 mpg on the average unless you go extremely light and drive extremely lightfooted. JMHO.

^weird, becasue the mpg on the new diesels isn't that far behind the old's but goody ones, with double the tq and in some cases done the hp. I'd hazard that mileage/stock power ratio is actually greater with the new ones.....yet not discounting the simplicity of the old oil burners.

Whatever it is, just fill it up and put it on plastic for the end of the month....

I don't believe any Tier 4 compliant diesel trucks gets good mileage. It's not in the design to be efficient. It is designed to be emissions efficient however.

Real glad I don't own one and don't plan on ever having one either.
