Hi All:

After reading the many posts on this forum, and contemplating new TV's, today we brought home our new to us TV....a 2017 Ram 2500 Laramie Crew Cab w/ 6.7L Cummins. We enjoyed our 2011 Ram 2500 Laramie CC w/ Hemi (4.10 rear) but it was starting to have issues, and DW was on board with a new TV.

I first fell in love with diesels with our now sadly-returned VW TDI w/ 6spd manual (yes, it was part of the whole emissions scandal), and was salivating at the idea of getting a Cummins.

Anyway, I considered another Hemi, and even downsizing to a 1/2 ton, but with kids now leaving the nest, we wanted the flexibility to go to a bigger TT or moderate 5'er, and better mileage. FYI - I averaged 12MPG around town in the Hemi, 14mpg on the highway at 65mph. On the trip home today through rolling country roads, I was averaging 21mpg. wow!

So very excited to be back in an oil burner (well, sort of. My VW was more like an oil sipper).

Thanks all for the posts and advice. Hope you are all building plenty of 2018 camping memories!

Thanks All!

I have been enjoying the new truck. Just soooooo happy to be in a diesel. 20mpg around town vs 12mpg on my 5.7 hemi. Mrs. loves it too.

Happy camping all.

Congratulations! You're going to love it. I have a 2015 2500 CTD that I bought new. Just turned over 67k. The only issues have been a recall on the catalytic chamber in the exhaust system and a recall on the engine water pump plus a few software recalls/updates. It's the best truck I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few over the years.

Towing your trailer with the exhaust brake and tow/haul mode is going to spoil you so be forewarned. 🙂

Happy travels!

That will probably be his only disappointment. No diesel odor with a DEF system. 🙂

Yea towing that little TT with a Cummins will require many mirror checks!! The reason is you won’t think it is back there!!

Did you have the 5.7 or the 6.4?

A 2011 would make it a 5.7.

To this very day I still don't understand why FCA offers both 5.7 and 6.4 gas engines in the HD trucks.

For 18 model year, or could be 17, they no longer do. If you buy a 2500/3500 gas you get the 6.4. I believe anyway!

My wife found a large 5th wheel with bedroom and bathroom on main level and living room upstairs. She likes it very much. I told her that our current truck was not enough to tow that big of trailer.. I would need a diesel.. so we'll see what happens in the next few years.

I've had my '14 2500 with Cummins for nearly 3 years. I really love towing with this truck. My old Chevy with 6.0L gas served me well for 10 years with no complaints other than the truck was 2WD and I was tired of getting stuck in grass and boat ramps.

We upgraded to a 5er and the Cummins is definitely the right tool for the job. Enjoy the new ride.

I did the same I went from a 14 F 250 with the 6.2 gas to a 16 F 350 diesel.
You will love towing with the diesel. As long as I have a rv to tow I will have a diesel,I would not be happy going back to gas.
