The AF truck camper I bought earlier this month came with a complete setup of mounts for the truck and Fastguns. There was also a brand new set of standard Happy Jacks. I used the FGs for the trip home and then switched over to the happy jacks I had already. For me the standard HJ setup works well.

I thought the FGs were a good idea and quality product but since my truck camper is mounted on a GN trailer I really have no need for them or the second set of HJs.

I have the qwik loads on my new setup and they seem to work well. They are rated for 4k each, seem solid and pretty inexpensive. I had torklift XLโ€™s on my last setup, solid, like the qwikloads better.

Yes if you have original spring load turnbuckles, you can cut off end and thread directly, or link, onto either T/L derringers or H/J qwik loads. Gain the quick release feature without the cost.

T/L Derringer

I was lucky enough to also find used fastguns, actually a member here.
Which would be the other option, just cobble something together- keep your eye open for a used set.

Fast guns on Craigslist all the time.

I just linked those because I figured they were the cheapest.

I still have two sets of Happi Jac turnbuckles. After researching some of the info people provided on this thread, it appears I can use them with a smaller version of Fast Guns or Qwik Locks and save some money. I don't know why, but I kinda like saving money.

Dang those things have gotten expensive. I bought mine when they were much cheaper, but I still had to buy them a pair at a time to keep the boss happy.

Brad, I think if I were needing tiedowns today I would look seriously at the Torklift Springload XLTurnbuckles at $180 a pair. As nice as the fast guns are, you do still have to tweek the adjustments of each one every time you load the camper. It never seems to end up in exactly the same spot, and that affects how long each tiedown needs to be.

Oh, and yes.....go with four springloaded turnbuckles no matter which type you choose.

I'm thinking of adding derringer handles to my current HJ tiedowns. I finally got my hands on the proper 2 sprung/2 unsprung setup (for free fiddy!) and the camper rides MUCH nicer in the truck. Even if I have to tweak them every time I load the camper, the way I see it is that the preload will be more consistent with them than eyeballing 1/4" on top of pre-existing witness marks.
