Dual rear wheel or single rear wheel?

Hello all!! Brand new here to the forum. I have just purchased and brought home our new 5th wheel(with a buddies truck)and I am getting mixed reviews on which setup to get. Our 5th wheel is a Palomino Columbus 42" 7" 2,600 tongue weight,13,300 "dry", 16,600 +- laden. I have my eye on a '17 RAM 3500 4x4 with the 6' 4" box, SRW, with the Cummins 6.7. I have had several people tell me I NEED a Dually, it will ride better and be more stable, which makes sense but, is it really "necessary"? I am not ready for a DRW due to reasons of my own, however, if I am kidding myself, I would like to hear it from others who tow 5th wheels. Thanks!

We need a ROFLMAO smiley! That's funny^^^^^^ although I think a Cat diesel would work better....LOL!

We do have one that is similar. :B Would be nice if people would use them now and then which would make their responses somewhat clearer.

Since this thread has gone quite a bit off topic, and is now 14 pages long, I think it is time for it to close.

No matter what size 5er you tow you need a MDT with a Detroit diesel outfitted with overload suspension. Anything less your insurance won't cover you and you're going to kill someone.

The F150 with Ecoboost can tow anything ever made
1 Ton SRW with Turbo diesel canโ€™t tow anything
Maybe a little exaggerated but many will see my point.

Lol, I give up. You're right. The only truck that is built should only be a DRW. Why build anything else. DRW is better at everything so it's obvious that there should be 4 wheels on the back of everything no matter what.

They're just better at stability and taking weight, owning them all my life....they are NOT good in snow empty and you almost always have to park in the back of a parking lot......;)

Careful what you say. Next thing you know he will be done with you also. :B

The gooseneck trailer we use at work weighs a hair over 7k. It's just a normal 30' tandem dually that most people use. Load an 11k skid steer with attachments on it and it is over 18k. Loaded correctly and it is easily towed with SRW trucks.

It's ALL about pin weight. But the extra MASS of a DRW does help with control in a "OH SH!T" moment.

I think you need to look up the definition of mass.:S

It will tow more than that.

And stay under the RGAWR? Chris

Tandem axle 5er NO. TRIPPLE axle 5er possibly. 5er with appropriate pin weight towing another trailer sure!
