Looking for the best route towing 5er from Myrtle Beach to Ashville NC.
Looking at the map appears the shortest distance is 501 To Florence and pick I-20.
Looks like this road changes numbers off and on.

How is traveling this stretch with a 5er.

The elevation change is called Saluda grade, there are 3 lanes and no trucks in 3rd lane. Good road.

We do I-26 to/from Asheville all the time with the rig in my signature - no problems. There are truck lanes where they need to be - just "tuck in" and run with the big boys. Even the tunnels are plenty big.

According to Google Earth's elevation/grade tool when you get within about 50 miles of Asheville, the elevation rises at a 6% rate over the next 6 miles, from 1100' to around 1900'. It then dips a bit and rises again to 2200'.

501 to Florance, to I-95 South (about 5 miles), to I-20 to Columbia, to I-26 West. By car it would take me about 6 hours. Good road all the way.
