Okay wife wants a new car, in 5 yrs we looking for possible options to use the car as a 4 down toad.

Problem: Wife hates cars on above link, what she likes is toyoto Rav 4, Honda CRV, subaru outback. Just starting to get our feet wet with this. Anything we could request/do/change at the dealership where we may be able to tow one of these cars 4 down?

Happy wife=happy life :B

Thanks everyone for your help

I've seen people trying to put their cars on a trailer.... no thank you.

MM.

Ya know, as much as I'm a fan of four down towing, I'd almost consider a large enclosed trailer if we were full timers. Mainly for having a little workbench and a lot of tools, including a vise..etc...etc. Would even have inverter power available inside, as well as a shore and genset connector. I would expect it to be easy loading with a drive on ramp and such.

you are correct. The Flex and MKT are on the same platform. Lincoln does not currently have an Explorer counterpart. I expect that to come before too long.

You are 100% correct on all counts

I didn't see if the OP ever purchased a vehicle, but Fusion and MKZ Hybrid or Hybrid Plug in Electric are both towable.

We had a plug in electric lease car and absolutely loved it.

I also know someone towing a Lincoln MKT which I think is Lincoln's explorer...

Hey Mr. Bullydogs,

I always thought that the Lincoln MKT was the Ford Flex clone. In the old days, they had the Lincoln Aviator which was Lincoln's sister to the Ford Explorer.

I lined up the Lincoln MKT, Ford Flex and the Ford Explorer on the Lincoln 'comparison' website and the MKT and Flex do have the same wheelbase of 117.9, the Explorer is 112.8.

Otherwise, they all compare very close to each other. So now, I'm not sure.

Safe travels,
MM.

If you don't want to go the Wrangler route, new Jeep Cherokees with 2 spd transfer cases can be flat towed. They require a Mopar flat tow kit for the electric steering I believe. Brother in law just bought one to use as a towed.

So, it has to be brand new and if not, problem seems solved with a 14 CRV.
My DW went from a sports car roadster to a Wrangler, before we even decided to start towing, so we now have the best of all worlds, IMO.
Good mall crawler and great for off road terrain, as well.

Simple - "She Likes the Honda CRV - just is the New ones are not good for being Toads - so buy a Good used Toad when you need it - in your case a 2014 CRV would work - little bumpy but nice.

So as far as looking down the road for 4-5 years - really not the best idea.

JMHO,

I agree Bill sometimes even looking 1 year ahead is risky.

This said we just bought a 2014 Honda CRV, 14K miles, 1 owner, Honda pre-owned certified.

Whats most important is DW is happy and our car situation is resolved for today.

Guess we can only hope for the best and see what happens down the road. ๐Ÿ™‚

I believe they line up as follows:

Ford Escape = Lincoln MKC
Ford Edge = Lincoln MKX
Ford Explorer = Lincoln MKT

The MKT and Flex have the exact same wheel base at 117.9

The Explorer is 112.8.

But, I'm not saying that you are wrong, it gets blurry comparing the Flex and Explorer for interior space, roof height, ground clearance, etc. The Lincoln MKT is 9.3 inches longer than the Explorer.

Only the Explorer, Flex and MKT offer a third seat option and all three are towable. The Edge and MKX are 5 seaters and are towable. The Escape and MKC are not towable.

Safe travels,
MM.
i guess i just ruled out the Flex because of the unique body style to the others but you might be right

So, 65 cars listed and she hates them all? Tough DW!
Have you looked at the FMCA towables guide? If not, you should.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?
