Truck stops.

After deciding to buy a Fifth-wheel I started thinking what I would need to know about this thing. One of the first things I realized is I have not been at a truck stop with a trailer hitched up since 2003. So what do I do when I pull up to a diesel pump at a truck stop now?

I do use truck stops occasionally, but our normal travel day usually allows me to refuel AFTER I've got the 5er set up. Truck stops (even with the Pilot/Flying J discount card) are more expensive than local stations you can find using Gas Buddy. I will say that truck stops allow for refilling the DEF tank at a much cheaper price than than the Blue DEF containers you buy at Walmart.

2006 Chevy here. No issue with filler tube size at truck islands. Big chain truck stops usually cost more. The only problem I can ever recall at a truck stop was caused by a thoughtless RVer who did not pull forward far enough at a busy stop after filling.

Cheaper fuel can often be found less than a half mile further from a highway exit. Some vehicular gymnastics might be needed to get into & out of the smaller stations. If we can we buy fuel when we do not have the trailer.

More problems are caused by car drivers using the diesel/gas islands instead of gas only islands & wandering off inside leaving the car blocking the diesel pump.

And that just p$$s me off..along with leaving shopping carts in the parking lot!

Avoid the lot lizards.
Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

I just use the pump at the normal pump islands. I dont really care about the price, it is what it is and they are usually right off the highway, have plenty of room in the parking lot to get in and out, or park and have lunch without bothering anyone.

If I had an in bed fuel tank it would put me over my RAWR of 9.750# that I run at loaded. Then the weight police would have a good reason to slam me.

Two reasons for us having an extra 55 gal inbed fuel tanks is we can fuel where we want and have an easier in and out plus if bad fuel happens we don't fill both tanks at the same place so might have to change the fuel filter and good to go using the other tank. This has not happened but I like to have a plan.

I dont ever fuel up with 5er attached. So I can pick the cheapest and just drive the truck in without worry about can I get out or not. It sure is nice to have a 50 gal aux fuel tank

You have a 2013 DuraMax, have you even tried a truck stop nozzle? It WILL fit.
