Trip Report San Carlos to Mazatlan

We left San Carlos as soon as it was light enough to see the road clearly, 6:15. The road to the state line was mostly one lane due to construction, and the surface was either mediocre or fabulous. We had been told the last 10 miles before Sinaloa was very rough, and it is. Both directions, and because of the stage the construction is in, it may be bad for a long time. Not full of holes, just really rough.

We aren't advocating driving this far in a day. We hate it. We were prepared to stop at the north end of the last toll road at the big Pemex, but weren't at all tired, and it was still early. From that location, it's 110 miles into Mazatlan and just a bit over 2 hours.

The good news?? It's all concrete going south through both Obregon and Navajoa. Really nice.

Once we were in Sinaloa, things were just fine.

It took us exactly 10 hours with one fuel stop to reach Las Jaibas in Mazatlan. Tomorrow, the short run to Tepic.

The roads from Hermosillo to the state line with Sinaloa are as above-under construction. Largely one lane, switching back and forth. When it's finished, it will be smooth sailing.
