From memory plus I don't use a recipe.

Cover ham bone with water and simmer for an hour or so.
After and hour, remove all ham from bone and size ham pieces for the soup.
Put ham and bone back in pot and add drained navy beans that have been soaked overnight.
Add chopped onion, celery, carrots, bay leaves.
Cook until beans are tender (About an hour).
Remove bone and bay leaves, add salt and pepper to taste.
Serve with corn bread.

This is the Chiles Rellenos thread. I think you want to put it in the Ham Bone thread.

The recipe is underneath the video. You hit the arrow underneath the right hand side of the video and it drops the information box down where the recipe is written.

You COULD , but it won't be as good IMO. The crock pot makes it too soupy. Mexican dishes need dry heat to create a balance.

Thanks, just about have the ingredients together.

Any tips on making this dish on a stove?

You'll find that outdoor dutch ovens are meant to be more of an oven (heat on top and bottom) than stovetop cookware (bottom heat). The best way to translate camping d.o. recipes to your home is to use your indoor oven at your house.

You will have more success if you try it in your own indoor oven in a deep casserole dish or preferably a cast iron d.o. for the indoor oven (no legs). Here are some great d.o. examples for indoor ovens. Lodge Dutch Ovens

We have two sizes for the house and they both were hand-me-downs. Lodge has excellent quality control so these puppies will last several generations as long as they aren't doused in cold water while hot or used for target practice. My wife says they make great "husband tamers" too. :E I'm not sure what she means by that but I'm not going to question it.
